His performance is definitely outstanding, but there are several performances in this show that are impressive. I'd recommend seeing it even if he's out.

I agree but POPE is beyond TERRIFIC and back!!! Burke was not nailing it!

Sunday in the Park with George
Im guessing that the production isnt obligated to announce ahead of time which shows Pope will be out for. Like I said, if hes out for my now one remaining slot, Ill see either DEH again (depending on reports on the new Evan plus availability on TKTS or StubHub) or The Cher Show (or alternately Merrily We Roll Along).

I saw the matinee on January 12 and Jeremy and some of the other ensemble members sounded like they were at their limit. (The performances across the board were still excellent.) I wonder if singing such difficult arrangements in a larger theater, without amplification, is pushing their voices a bit hard. And since CHOIR BOY is now extended through February 24 and AIN'T TOO PROUD begins previews on February 28, it seems likely that Pope will miss at least a few performances for rehearsals.
Saw this yesterday and it struck a chord with me in certain ways. *SPOILERS AHEAD*
The play itself can be a bit predictable, and I didn’t really like how they shoehorned in Austin Pendelton’s character and then explained his connection to the play in a one-line throwaway. I liked how they juggled the gay storylines in the play, especially including the “dont-be-so-obvious” trope that I went through in high school. Also, the penultimate scene in the bedroom warmed my heart because, rarely on a stage, do you see one man comforting another (that are non-familial) and challenging the idea of being masculine means you can’t be supportive or comforting.
Jeremy Pope is a Star and is certainly on his way, though I’m not sure he will snatch the Tony, given the glut of more than qualified candidates (I’m still pegging Cranston, who I saw on Friday). These boys can SAAANNNNGGG. Like, I would die for a cast album of this play, and I know that sounds weird, but they are all so soothing and melodic and harmonious on the ear.
I also wanted to give major props to Caleb Eberhardt, who plays David. Though his storyline seems a bit predictable, he handles the nuances of being closeted very well and carries it throughout the play until it’s time to reveal it, at first in a cheesy, and then a very messy way.

I think Pope leaves at the end of the original run. Pretty sure the original press release on the extention mentioned who was taking over.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I saw this a few weeks ago. I thought it was fine, but nothing to write home about. I realize I am in the minority on this one, but I just was not completely taken with this as most were. The acting was great for sure, and Jeremy Pope was fantastic, but the play itself left me a little cold.

Yes, Jonathan Burke (Pope’s understudy) is taking over for the last two weeks of the run as Pope departs for AIN’T TOO PROUD

Think I'm going to get tickets to see this during its final week. For those who have seen it - is the stage high? There are a few $30 tickets in orch row BB and mezz row A. Not sure which to choose as I know front row orch can often be partial view.

Thanks in advance!"
I sat front row orchestra off to the side and found the view to be fantastic! It's definitely better to be closer for this one.
