And even though one or two people didn't like the book, it was praised entirely by the critics. And also, Tina Fey.

Madson, Tina Fey wrote the book, so of course she praised it. Itamar's book for The Band's Visit gained even more critical praise and is far superior.

All of these could change, but at this present moment this is how I'm feeling. I'm interested to see Henson/Butz go against each other at the Drama Desks. I think KPOP played in Park's favor for a nomination, but I'm unsure how many voters will have seen that. I'm giving her the edge right now.

Am I the only one convinced Once on this Island will get scenic design over spongebob? Sure, spongebob has the balls and such but in Once on this Island it RAINS and has a pond, not to mention the sand lifting up and all of the garbage around the theatre/things that get fixed throughout the show. And don't even get me started about timounes tree. I am not a fan of this show (at ALL) but, the scenic design truly wowed me, just like comet.

^ I agree.

If there was an award for Best Proscenium, I'd give it to Spongebob. It's fun and impressive but so many other times throughout the show the stage looked bare and bland. Once on this Island transported you for the entire show, start to finish. Spongebob had moments, and those moments were creative and incredible, but as an entire design I give the edge to Once on This Island.

I think SpongeBob could win Best Musical. After all, a good majority of the Tony voters have to do with touring shows.

If The Band's Visit doesn't win Bet Musical, it will be nothing short of the biggest snub in years.

If that’s the case, then Band’s Visit or Once On This Island have a better shot at scene design than My Fair Lady or SpongeBob.

SpongeBob won't win Best Musical.  The Band's Visit has already announced a tour, which I don't think SpongeBob has done yet.  Also, The Band's Visit not winning Best Musical would cost the Tony Awards any of credibility that it has.

Haven't seen it on Broadway, but I thought The Band's Visit had such a smart and simple design. But I loved the ways they kept surprising using the space. I know it's not as flashy as Spongebob - which I thought was super bland (cool build-out, but the actual set was ugly and boring) - and I haven't seen My Fair Lady yet, but I'm sure it's gorgeous. Once on this Island was a cool use of the space, but not sure there was enough for Tony voters to grab onto.

As long as SpongeBob wins as few Tonys as possible, I'm happy. ANYWAY. Best Director of a Musical almost always goes to the winner of Best Musical or Revival (only 3 times this century has that not been the case). That being said, I wouldn't be too surprised if Musical went to BAND'S VISIT, Revival went to MY FAIR LADY, and Director went to ONCE ON THIS ISLAND.

Best Leading Actor in a Musical is really going to be the most interesting category of the night. GoldDerby currently has Tony as the number one pick, but I don’t see it going to him, but it very well could.

I saw Mean Girls in DC, but have not seen it on Broadway. I will say that Tina Fey's book is probably the strongest thing about the show. I'm not a fan of the framing device either, but the jokes really land. Grey Henson and Ashley Park earned their nods. Kate Rockwell was ROBBED.

I also saw The Band's Visit back in October when it was still in previews. I found it very good, if slightly too relaxed. However, Katrina Lenk singing Omar Sharif is one of the most memorable theatrical experiences of my life. The song, the lighting, her illuminating voice and presence. I hope she wins.
