Oh, there's the snark I love so much! Thanks Namo, ljay, and Jane for her on the button thoughts.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
It bums me out that the reaction to her performance was "omg she's so good!"
Yes, yes she is. Because when she drops the distracting shenanigans that she calls art, she can just focus on her singing, which is actually pretty amazing. But, she buries her real talent under ridiculous costumes, attitudes, and vomiting colored milk.
I can't handle her anymore, but if she can drop all that, I'd pick up being a fan again.
She's always had this and I'm really happy people were exposed to it more tonight. I've always admired her voice, pop star persona and otherwise. The last 'pop star' era for her was a hot mess but she's talked before about wanting to do Broadway and acting. She'd do great, I think.
veronicamae, what do you think of her work with Tony Bennett?
I know, Jane. In retrospect I should have started a new sentence then lumped you in. Ah, well - that's what editors are for :)

They were closer to the original Mary Martin show keys, which of course are lower than the Andrews movie keys, which may be what you're used to. And I second the notion of Gaga in Funny Girl!
She's a born and bred NYC showbiz girl and I can't imagine that she couldn't be lured into the right Broadway musical. She's a hard worker who could step up to the challenge. How about the Stanwyck role in a musical of "Meet John Doe"?
Lady Gaga should give up her floundering recording career and take the stage. This performance of hers tonight was stunning (and after the show I watched it 5 more times). It's true that at first I thought she was singing along to a track, that's how unlike her normal singing I found it. I was a big fan of her early work (specifically the Fame Monster) but her second and third albums have left me unimpressed and bored. So if that is all an act, I would urge her to follow her true calling, which is singing and not spectacle. Lady Gaga as Fanny Brice, Evita Peron or any number of roles old and new would be a thrilling prospect when compared to her recent recording work (barring her charming album of duets & standards). This is the Lady Gaga I want more of. Give us more to see.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I don't know if "Lady Gaga" would be successful on stage. There's so much baggage behind her name that I think she would be better if she performed under her real name. It may not be easy to pronounce, but it won't have all the history.
I thought she sounded fabulous, but I found her physicality to be awkward and forced, making it difficult to watch.

I found her performance simply amazing, but honestly, when someone decides to cover themselves with tattoos, do they not realize that might interfere with trying to look spectacularly elegant and classy? Could anyone ignore the trumpet on her arm as she raises it, otherwise looking simply classy?
OK, so call me old fashioned. I don't really mind the tattoos, but find them a block to the overall look she was trying to project last night. Should she have had a dress with long sleeves, or very long gloves? Maybe she should have kept on those oversized red rubber dishwashing gloves she was wearing earlier?
Yes, that ages YOU. While I personally don't care for tattoos, the world as a whole has gotten beyond the stigma of them being low class.
She was performing as "HER" not as a character (for a change). She shouldn't need to cover them up unless she wanted to. It's not like any casting director doesn't know how easily it can be expertly covered nowadays.

Jane2, you are not the only one. I too feel like the Grinch with most of my friends. Yes, she's amazingly talented (hardly news to me!). Yes, she can indeed sing in a variety of styles, including legit, and sing them very well (seems you and I even disagree on whether she has the chops to sing in legit pop style; I think she can, but that doesn't mean I bought her musical performance - there's a lot more to musical performance than musicality and hitting the notes - last night). But I didn't believe a moment of her performance last night and had very much an Emperor's New Clothes experience as the sole dissenter at my oscar party. But a very vocal one!
