Slap Reba back into an Annie Oakley get up and trot her onto the TV. She's had enough plastic surgery that she looks nowhere near 60.

Something like Bye Bye Birdie would make more sense than The Music Man. Can't imagine a massive audience tuning in for the latter.

I wish they'd do something more modern like A Christmas Story the musical

Pippin.

They did it back in the early 80s. William Katt was Pippin.

IMDb: Pippin: His Life and Times (1981)
At the goading of the ominous and omnipresent Leading Player, Pippin, the eldest son of King Charlemagne, samples life's pleasures to discover his place in the world and the meaning of his life.

I'd love to see its updated version, this time as a live TV event. Think it's possible?

The Music Man would be my first choice. Cast Seth MacFarlane, Neil Patrick Harris, or even Justin Timberlake as Harold. Christian Borle can play Marcellus.

Speaking of Pacific Overtures, I wonder what other shows would be absolutely horrible for a live presentation on NBC.

With Zadan and Meron working with Harris on the Oscars, I wouldn't be surprised if he was approached about Music Man.

Not to mention he's NBC's golden child and with a new variety show on the way he'd have a very public platform to promote it.

If Hugh Jackman hadn't already done OKLAHOMA! in London, I'd say do it live in '15.

It has to be something something of only the most basic obvious appeal to the kind of folks who just loved Carrie Underwood in SOUND OF MUSIC and this latest travesty of PETER PAN.

PIPPIN's too smart and dark. PACIFIC OVERTURES? Ha.

OLIVER!'s a bit grim, but it's got those great happy songs. They'll botch the casting though.

It also depends on what could work on essentially three or four standing sets. It's produced on a soundstage so it needs to minimalist in that regards.

Before his tragic descent into illness and death, I had hoped for Robin Williams as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He wss even contracted with NBC.

I say Seussical. It's modern, insanely popular and the reworking is just terrific. It's also something that is not-so-serious and can be self-referential. The cat could be Jimmy Fallon, gosh Robin would have been perfect. Fill it with pop-tarts and Youtube sensations.

That is not a "family-friendly classic." You've now seen the pattern: SOUND OF MUSIC, PETER PAN, THE MUSIC MAN. Think along those lines.

I feel like they're gonna want something that is a classic.

Seussical would be great, and I'd love to see it, but I don't think they'd choose it.

But can you imagine if they did choose something "newish" and went with Ragtime? That would be epic.

My Fair Lady can't be done unless without commercials. It's a long show and the time slot is 8-11 for these live productions.

Probably something like Calamity Jane. There seems to be a leaning toward older shows that people know and are obviously family friendly, that said I wouldn't be surprised if they did Carousel or another R&H.

I got it !!!
Charlize Theron in Annie Get Your Gun. When I saw Betty Hutton's portrayal in the film version I immediately thought of the similarities to Charlize's performance in "Monster". Except in "Annie..." she'll be shooting varmints instead of johns. I hope she can sing.
