I'm sure she'll do well with Mme Dilly. Andrea Martin, who did the role (also under Rando's direction) at Encores, weirdly missed all the laughs in the part; it's the only time I haven't enjoyed her. I was expecting a lot from her in advance, but she just did bug-eyed drunken mugging instead of pinning down a character (which is where the laughs come from). Michael Cumpsty was far funnier (with less helpful material) as Pitkin, because he did establish a character.
And adamgreer, me too!! I could use some installments of Fan Mail.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Along the lines of FindingNamo's comment, to be cast in Xanadu, a show which I love btw, and turn it into the Jackie Hoffman Show seems to me the definition of understanding and having respect for the material.
More casting...I really really hope this is an exceptional production that does great business, I'm just very skeptical about the latter (no matter how impressive the former).
