Ok, I will say it again, this is the best show on Broadway right now and it's great to see a Wednesday evening show that is completely sold out. Congratulations to Kathleen Marshall, Thom Clay and the entire cast and crew.
The show was in its best shape tonight, Matthew Broderick gets better and funnier everytime I see him. His singing was excellent and he truly gets the character, the people that criticize him don't really understand what his character is all about. He is a class act and he deserved a Tony Award for his performance as Jimmy Winter.
The same goes for Kelli O'Hara and her performance as Billie Bendix. Her voice sounded absolutely beautiful as usual and she gives a 100% everynight at the gorgeous Imperial Theatre.
Estelle Parsons(well-known for her work in the sitcom "Roseanne"), was also fabulous.
Broadway star Michael McGrath got the recognition he deserved for his hilarious work in this show. He is perfection, a great comedian, singer and actor.
Michael X. Martin played the role of "Duke Mahoney" and did a fine job.
Jennifer Smith was excellent as the "Dutchess Estonia Dulworth", it is a delight to see her doing such a wonderful job. Her singing was truly impressive and she hit all the high notes!
The entire cast, from Robyn Hurder to Stanley Mathis is top notch.
If you haven't seen this show, please go!

Muscle, Is Estelle still in the show? I had read in an interview that she was leaving the show at end of September. I am seeing it for the first time next Saturday (November 3) and hope to see most if not all of the original cast.
Estelle was in last night, I'll tell you that much.

Right...but I'm hoping she is still a full member of the cast. Not occasional performances. I emailed the production, but never got a response. She was suppose to be doing another show in October. Maybe thats finished.
I hope you get to see her, her role is just in a few numbers though...so even if she is out, as long as Matt, Kelli and Michael are in, I think you're fine!

I had an open slot for my trip last week and at the last minute decided to see nice work. It blew me away - a beautiful throw back show - smart book - totally engaged - would highly recommend it -

I saw the show for the first time last week, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it and how funny it was. In terms of the question of who's in the show now, I compared the current cast to the opening night cast, and they have added 2 swings, but not a single person has left.
Matthew Broderick is giving a very quirky performance that I can see as a love-it-or-hate-it type of performance, but the audience I saw it with seemed to love it, and I heard a lot of comments about how good he was. He was really, really funny and got lots of laughter and applause after some bits. I'm not sure Kelli O'Hara is a great fit for a tomboy part, but she sure can sing. And Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye definitely deserved their Tonys.
The show is certainly not perfect (I think the Duke subplot is one subplot too many) and there's certainly no deep meaning to the show, but the show is really fun and the cast is really, really good. I don't know why Anything Goes got such better reviews than this show. To me, the shows are pretty similar in tone and quality (except I think Nice Work is funnier and has a better book).
"What was the name of that cheese that I like?"
"you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start"
"well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"
I too thought this show was better than Anything Goes. The book was great Kudos to Joe Pietro for really getting down the srewball comedy of it all Marx Brothers Style. I saw Joey Sorge was on for Broderick and Michael Martin was on for the Duke. Stellar evening of Musical Theatre. Ben Brantley was way off base on this one.. Saw it Sunday the 28th of October and Estelle Parsons was in. She is listed in the program. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Great musical theatre old fashioned style.
