Good reasons but I think an out of town try-out is different than a 20 city tour. Was the FIDDLER tour the first to return to BWay and (I think) be up for a revival TONY?
Jekyll also started as a tour as well prior to Broadway... They just managed to change directors and designers on the way to Broadway. I think the tour-before-Broadway is more of a "homage" to the original run, as oppposed to have launched on Broadway for a limited engagement then tour.
Whether Jekyll and Hyde is a tour, a revival and/or a tryout, the bottom line is that the show isn't very good. While I don't think it falls into the 'ghastly' category, I do feel that it is sub-mediocre.
Some, if not many, people will disagree, but I feel this opinion has to be put out there.

'I think the tour before Broadway is more of an "homage" to the original run". Even you can't believe that. They are trying to gain momentum and MONEY, so if the show bombs again, they will have gathered some $ on the road. It ain't no "homage" to anything but the green.
Thanks for the info mistermatt, that's what I thought.
I wish Boston can get something like this instead of the umpteenth visit from Wicked, Mamma Mia and Jersey Boys (and I like Jersey Boys). I know they're the big sellers, but, still, it'd be nice.
