I would like to see Naya Rivera take on Sally. I think she could bring a sharper edge to the role, and her voice suits the songs. I agree with Colin Donnell for Cliff. Maybe Kacie Sheik for the Emcee, maybe not- I can't decide. But I would like to see a female Emcee.
Well I took a class at the college I go to in California called History of Musical Theater, and the professor said the actress playing Sally has to be a GREAT actress but a good singer and I agree with him. She doesn't need to be a carbon-copy of Liza who happens to be GREAT at both. Natasha Richardson I believe had no singing experience when she was cast as Sally.
My professor also said that if Frau Schneider is directed the wrong way the audience will hate her. But if she's directed correctly the audience will understand why she tells Herr Schultz she won't marry him.
I feel that the 1966 (with the original settings, choreography, direction, etc) would feel very bland and dated to today's audience. It was a big deal and it was edgy back then, now it would just feel corny and stale.
^Princeton, the Evita pictures don't do her justice. If you've ever seen the video of her doing the photo shoot for the Spanish people magazine, you know she certainly CLEANS UP.
I like the idea of an older Sally, personally. Much like LITTLE SHOP'S Audrey, the piece works better if she's not some young girl. She needs to have been chewed up and spit out by life in order to make her pain believable.
For so long I've said I want Kate Winslet to play Sally Bowles. If she did, she'd get that T in EGOT.
"As long as they don't cast some 40-year old as Sally. She really should be in her 20's"
Now, I kind of agree with that, yet I kind of don't- so I started thinking what the cast could be like if Sally and say Cliff were in their 20's. This is what I just came up with.
Carey Mulligan- Sally Bowles Bobby Steggert- Cliff
I can't think of anyone for The Emcee of the top of my head. You can't really decide who would be great for that role with out seeing their audition and what choices they bring to the role. IMHO.
I agree it is sad Kate never did the last revival. I was thinking more along the lines of Donna Murphy for Fraulein Schneider, i also like several others on here would love to Joanna Gleason play that role.
EDIT: I don't know if she sings but given how simple her songs Frauleins songs she could do it, Anjelica Houston.
