"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
Heart-breaking news. Everyone who knew of her and loved her did everything they could possibly do. She fought until this tragic end; if only Broadway had a chance to watch her continue to grow as a performer. Sleep in Heavenly peace, Shannon. My prayers go out to you, and your family and friends.
It's so sad that she never found that match she needed, but it's inspiring how the community mobilized for her and raised awareness about the bone marrow registry. I registered because of her and I know lots of others did, too. I hope others will be matched to donors who registered because of her.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

My heart is hurting for this sweet little girl and her family. She followed her dreams and did more in 11 years than most of us will do in our entire lives. RIP.
This is terribly upsetting news. I also had hoped she would find a match and recover quickly. Best wishes to all who knew her. Updated On: 11/1/10 at 10:36 PM
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Very sad news! Condolences to her family and friends. Rest in peace Shannon
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
My heart literally feels like it's in pieces right now. This is the saddest news I've heard in a long time. Rest in Peace, Shannon. My thoughts are with her family.
Absolutely gutted by this news. My heart is with her loved ones. Gone too soon.
I hope she and her family can take some solace knowing that her story helped open up the minds and hearts of so many others, and will likely save other lives.
"Hey little girls, look at all the men in shiny shirts and no wives!" - Jackie Hoffman, Xanadu, 19 Feb 2008
