Wow, I think it may actually be worse than that infamous high school production on youtube.
Did they think this set actually resembled a crumbling theater?

Ljay, that Loveland narration (or something similar) also appeared in the 1977 Melody Top production (with Dorothy Collins). I have no idea where it comes from.

High art. Those cheap satin dresses are stunning.

God, that's bizarre. Almost as bizarre as the "radio announcer" in the official concert script.

The sets are awful. It's a crumbling theater, not your next around the corner bar.

The set looks like a bad Italian restaurant.

The Loveland narrator is Weisman. We added it to allow the audience a breather in between the music starting and the eight part dialogue ending. It helped them gather what was about to happen. Btw. I directed this show. I have to agree with some of the comments, but I will point out that this was the first amateur community theatre production of this show done on long island in many years...and perhaps the last, but it was done as a tribute to Sondheim for the celebration of his 80th birthday, and for many senior citizens I have in my theatre group. Many of the women up there were well into their 70's and some in their 80's and they were all tap dancing away. As for the set, I do admit it is not a crumbling theatre, but the dialogue suggests the theatre is old, but still functioning, in fact in the prologue to the show Sally says "it's all so beautiful, why do they have to tear it down?"

I was in that production. First off I'd like to ask how many of you have put up Follies? It's not an easy show at all. The director had a few interesting and unusual concepts and maybe you dont agree with them but at least he took a chance, so please give a little credit for a difficult undertaking. Next I would like to say this was not our best performance but it was the one we scheduled to be taped professionally so the video clips we had to remember the production came from this one. We didn't know we were being reviewed. To answer the question about I'm Still Here it was recorded but with an understudy, we were hoping to upload a video of some test footage from the previous night of the original actress. And the woman who cleared her throat? Her father was dying in the hospital while we were doing this. I think the fact that she cleared her throat to get a frog out before she sang is a rather minor issue. We know the show had some difficult moments but I don't believe it was the train wreck you all are describing.

If a graphic from Xanadu is your profile pic, then clearly you are an expert on musical theatre. let me stare at one of your productions for 20 seconds to see what happens.

as for the comment about once on this island, I thank you. I also did that show, I served as both set designer and musical director. clearly my set designs are not all that bad. Of course I do sense sarcasm on some of these posts.

I will admit the show had it's share of flaws. every community theatre show does. But my production had full sets, costumes, lights, and an orchestra, and you will not find one other community theatre production of this show on youtube with all of those...that is why you are commenting on mine.
