When I bought it I was so excited. Then I was going to listen to it so I took out the booklet it came with a was very annoyed that it came with no lyrics. I also found that the cd kept on sliding out the side.
Did anyone else find this annoying?

Posted: 8/16/09 at 12:08amI have the same issue with the CD falling out of the side. As soon as I removed the plastic wrapping the CD immediately fell out. The casing is so loose that I eventually had to put the case aside and put the CD in a case normally used for a blank DVD.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 2:47amI haven't had a problem with the disc falling out at all of mine. And its so true that cds have a better quality to them and energy IMO. Its one of the big reasons I always buy cds and don't download.

I so agree with namo and bwaybound, cds sound much better.
But yes, I don't care the packaging that Sh-k-Boom produces. Give me a jewel box, carbon foorprint be damned.

I respectfully disagree re the 2004 Recording. I find that recording to be almost painful to listen to, even if it does have some good tracks (the title number and Jennifer Hudson's incomparable "Easy to Be Hard"). But to me the new recording is simply heavenly, probably one of my favorite cast recordings ever. Basically the main problem with the '04 recording is that there are no characters performing this great show, just performers singing the song. Diane Paulus' cast is so unique and they get their roles so so so well, that each number is filled with the emotions that most of the '04 concert performers never manage to bring out of the songs. And who can stand Shoshana Bean's idea of singing during "I Believe in Love"?
Sad to hear that there are no lyrics in the actual hardcopy album. That's always incredibly disappointing.

I'm with you on that ray. I can't listen to the 2004 recording at all.
The best version is still the OBCR, at least to me. The new recording is more complete, but it feels too "perfect" to me. I prefer the slightly sloppy sound of the original. It feels more organic. Which is what Hair is supposed to feel like, IMO.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 7:18amI believe all the recordings have their redeeming qualities, and listen to all for different favs, but i totally agree with Tazber re: the organic quality of the original, but I couldn't articulate that opinion prior to reading his post.

My personal favorite HAIR recording is (and always will be) the Original 1967 Off-Broadway Cast Recording.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 11:29amI have to also agree that my favorite is the 1968 OBCR. The new one definatly has a more professional sound to it, but IMO thats why I don't like it as much. It's also kinda nice because you can hear that it was made in the 1960's becuase of the teachnology they had then to record it which I think only adds to the CD.

Bean's "I Believe in Love" is one of the most painful recording of any song ever.
Don't get her appeal. Worst Elphaba ever. That she was chosen as the first Broadwday replacement is criminal.

I actually like Bean's rendition of "I Believe in Love" a lot. For the most part though, that entire 2004 recording is just...awful. There are a few good tracks here and there, but most of it is just a mess. Lillias White sang THE WORST rendition of Aquarius I have ever heard in my entire life. I can't listen to it without cringing.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 5:42pmI hate the Concert recording. First class example of vocal masturbation. Nothing but riffs. I do love the revival album, though. Some really great renditions of these fantastic songs. I still prefer the OBC, but that's probably because I grew up with it. It's difficult to break away from what you grew up with. Plus, Diane Keaton cameo-who could resist?!
