Actually, Mamma Mia got good reviews, even from Ben Brantley. So, even though we all love to hate it, it still doesn't qualify as being critically panned.

Yeah, that's true. It was in the Tony's that year. I suppose ABBA in general is just a guilty pleasure. re: 'Bad ' Musicals You Enjoyed

I didn't see it, but listening to Princess Diana the musical always brings a smile to my face on a bad day.

"Big: the Musical" (becuase I did it last November and fell in love with "The Real thing") and "Clue: the Musical" (ran off-B'way for 29 performances, I've seen 2 local productions and loved both).

Chess wasn't a flop in London at all. If you talked about Broadway production, that can be said "Bad".

Mama Mia cannot be called "Bad" either, finacially or critically.

Dance of the Vampires was quite possibly the best $20 I have ever spent. (actually $40 - I had to go back)

I have never laughed so hard at anything in my life!!!

(and didn't see In My Life, but shoudl have)

they made a musical of Clue? that's awesome! I hope it was based on the movie...

I have nothing to contribute to this thread yet (I haven't really enjoyed any bad musicals). But I'm SO hoping to add Lestat to this thread when I see it. Cause it looks like SO much kitschy fun.

I'm proud to say I loved Taboo and Bombay Dreams, despite their faults.

Good Vibrations, that's more of a guilty pleasure. Because it was rightfully panned.

I like Annie.

Don't make fun of me. It was my first exposure to musical theatre! It's become a bit of a sentimental thing now.

Chess wasn't a flop in London at all. If you talked about Broadway production, that can be said "Bad".

I never saw the Broadway production of Chess, but I like the OBCR and prefer its admittedly muddled book to London's book.

"Dracula","Chita" and "Wicked", and i would say "Bombay Dreams" but the reviews weren't really bad, and i think the show was not bad at all!

Moby Dick - The musical. Well, I was only ten but I had a fantastic time! Having only seen South Pacific at that point, I didn't know musicals could be fun...

Romeo & Juliet - The musical. Hilariously bad lyrics ("Tybalt, Tybalt, you're gonna die") set to sub-Eurovision music (not quite as bad Notre Dame de Paris) performed by 12 year olds (albeit very talented 12 year olds). Great way to get over a recent break-up re: 'Bad ' Musicals You Enjoyed

Taboo (5x)
Dracula (5x)
Chitty (3x)
In My Life (2x)
Little Women (2x)

If I like a musical, it means the critics won't and it's destined to close pretty quickly.

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

I quite enjoyed "Sweet Smell of Success".

I absolutely loved "Aspects of Love" when I first saw it...I still think it's one of ALW's under-rated scores (it does borrow heavily from Rachmaninoff and Tschaikowski)

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
