I think it's a weird the person who seems think a person's inherent value is tied to what money they have or can generate would have anything against people who conspicuously consume.
@ GreasedLightning - Just cause something is expensive or designer doesn't make it good. I for one would only accept those outfits to turn around and sell them to some other fool who thinks that because they are by some big designer that they are worth paying excessive amounts for it when it looks awful. Cause trust me, put a designer label in a potato sack and it will sell. Their two outfits are pale in comparison to the rest.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

PJ, you're right, there were some costumey ones. With my wacky taste, those are the ones I really love. Except for Lupita's. My very favs were the Carolina Kurkova and the Venice scape.
I think Vera Wang and Charlize Theron had the same gown on.
The Met ball is supposed to be bold and dramatic. It's a very fitting ensemble for a night dedicated to a designer renowned by Vogue as the "master of the cut", Charles James. I think they look great, and perfect for the evening. I hope Neil had a large steak and a lot of rolls.
I am allowed to voice my opinion just like every other poster on this board.
I won't be made to believe otherwise.
Don't like it? Not apologizing. I read a lot of things on this board that I agree with and a good amount of things that I don't. But, I certainly don't launch into attacks against those I disagree with.
So, essentially, when you see NPH in a subject line, no matter what is actually being discussed, you merely enter to spew your venom?
Please show me one other instance in which I've done this.

FOAnatic, you must realize that there is a relatively small but frequently-posting group of folk here who derive great pleasure in personally attacking those whose opinions they don't like. It's unattractive, but can be entertaining under the right circumstances.
I cannot BELIEVE I'm about to defend Lupita's look...but I feel like it's a wacky nod to Josephine Baker, which I love. I mean, if Solange Knowles can show up looking like a floppy vagina, I feel like we should cut Lupita some slack!
And I don't! Because calling NPH's outfit a "look at me" gimmick - when it is plainly A) in the spirit of the event and B) relatively mild at said event- is simply just you finding everything he does offensive. Even if it means inventing reasons to find him offensive.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I actually kinda like the outfits, if I could ever go to the Met Ball, I'd definitely wear something fun and eccentric like that, it's part of the event. I love that the pants have their own cape.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
