YES, "Run and Tell That" had the entire audience practically dancing in their seats.

I also loved the beginning of "I Know Where I've Been" when Latifah starts singing, "There's a light in the darkness" and is looking at Tracy. GAH, what a powerful moment.

"I Know Where I've Been"

Amanda's "I'm thrilled and terrified" line--best line in the movie and she nailed it.

Nikki Blonsky's entire performance--it's a Jennifer Hudson level movie debut--any chance she'll do it on Broadway?

And while it took a REALLY long time to warm up to Travolta due to the latex, accents and tentative singing voice in the early going, I still teared up during "Timeless to Me." Maybe cause I realize there are a couple people in my life who are timeless to me.

I'm going to see it tonight. And they better have gotten it right, because I'm not altogether thrilled with the cast.

There is a difference to moments in the film that gave you chills and moments in the film that you liked.

I agree completely, there is a big difference. I don't see how Amanda saying: "I'm very thrilled and terrified to be here" could give you chills.

I don't think there were any moments that gave me chills. There were some moments that made me cringe.

For instance... every time Travlota came on film
For instance..everytime Travolta openned his mouth.
For instance...Edna Turnblad never going blonde
For instance.. Edna Turnblad not coming out of the hairspray can.
For instance...cutting out the best number- Mama I'm a Big Girl Now.
For instance.. the lack of chemistry with Travlota and any other cast member.-especially her/his daughter.
I honestly think they couldn't have picked a worse Edna.

I enjoyed the performances of Pfeiffer and Latifa. I thought they each gave glowing performances. I enjoyed Penny, Penny's Mom, Sea weed, Lil Inez and Link. but frankly the casting of Travolta threw the whole thing off balance. It made Motor mouth and Pfeiffer the stars of the movie; not Edna and Tracy, I thought Nikki Blonski acceptable--not great. I did love when her picture sang.

While I did not hate the movie... I had a lot of misgivings and moments of "cringe' in it. A lot of the surprise, a lot of the camp, a lot of the guffaws of the wonderful Broadway Musical and the wonderful original did not make the transition to the film and that is sad. I think one reviewer called it "homogenized" - I have to agree. Sorry teen fans.

Yes it moved very fast. A choreographers trick so that the audience doen't notice that things are amiss. (Jerry Mitchell tried this in Legally Blonde-with the similar results) So fast that you don't notice what's missing. It had lovely art direction, lovely costumes, lovely hair-- but I think when the best moments of the film are the closing credits, there is a problem with the film. Again.. not a disaster just problematic. And homogenized.

"God I want to see this movie again so badly. I haven't had so much fun at a movie since KNOCKED UP"

That's not a big compliment to the movie, since Knocked Up opened a few weeks ago! Hehe.
Anyways when Tracy gets cast in The Corny Collins show, and goes and auditions against all the odds, and ignoring what Velma told her.

Good Morning Baltimore and I Know Where I've Been brought tears to my eyes. I don't know why GMB has that effect on me, it just does.

I Can Hear the Bells and You Can't Stop the Beat had me grinning from ear to ear.

- The sounds of the city before GOOD MORNING BALIMORE.
- The close up on Tracy as she opens her eyes before GOOD MORNING BALITMORE.
- GOOD MORNING BALITMORE.
- I CAN HEAR THE BELLS.
- YOU CAN'T STOP THE BEAT
- When Velma realized her guards had brought Tracy in through the front door.
- When Tracy came down in the rocket and dispurted Miss Teenage Hairspray.

I will say, though I wasn't too fond of the movie itself, I Know Where I've Been was FANTASTIC.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

saw it friday night..

-Good Morning Baltimore
- without Love
- Cant stop the beat..especially when edna turned it out!

I have to say I enjoyed the film a lot more than the stage production (I know, how dare I) I bought the cast recording months before seeing it on broadway 2 years ago and I loved the recording, but the cast I saw that night and the production... just didn't do it for me. I'am buying this as soon as the dvd comes out and I will see it again at the movies. Great film, so much fun. Will watch over and over.

Was no one else annoyed with John Travolta's accent? What kind of accent was he ... trying ... for?

GClef2, that's definitely the funniest part to a person who knows every line of the show since it's fresh.

I'll think of the parts that give me chills later, but I can't help but smile when Zac says, "Um, kiss my ass?"

( I saw it for the 5th time today. I'm going to give it a week break now. :))

Queen, leading the protest.

Hope this isn't a spoiler:

Also, toward the end when Nikki came down from the ceiling in that capsule thing saying "you're about to get out danced". Totally didn't expect her to be in that thing.

"Was no one else annoyed with John Travolta's accent? "

I really liked the accent it was funny. Only thing, his face was too smooth and young looking, it didn't go with that old voice he was using. Had they given his face more character (wrinkles) I think the voice would have gone over even better, especially considering his husband was pretty much wrinkled. He really did look super young in the face. The voice would have been so much funnier had they gone with an older face.

my fav moment in the entire film is when Tracy makes it on the Corny Collins show. When shes able to yell out her name...I was so happy and pleased for her. It was a GREAT moment

This was a great one. That entire sequence leading up to that, starting with Penny running into the house to get Tracy's parents in front of the tv. Yep, that was a good one for sure.

Do some of you people have a problem with basic reading skills? Where does "Moments In The HAIRSPRAY Movie That Gave You Chills?" translate to, I'm going to pee all over everyone's good time. Didn't like it? Bully for you, or rather how sad for you. Take it to another thread for those others that have a hard time sitting and enjoying themselves for a fun and joyous 107 minutes, while picking apart every frame on screen. We don't care if you didn't like it, or appreciate Travolta or the beat was too fast or you didn't get this or that. Begone, you have no power here.

Rentboy, have you ever been to Baltimore, because his accent was pretty spot on, though I admit the timbre of it made him sound like Dr. Evil at times.

I think the reason why it stuck out was that he was the ONLY one in the film to try for the accent. weird choice by Shankman to let him do that, but he got the accent quite decently.

oh, anyway....chills- the opening, when I realized the right tone was struck with the film. I think it was the garbage truck shot.

I know where I've been
when the dynamites were featured for the first time. wheew, they had style!

My favorite moment in the film was at the end of "Without Love" and Edna (John Travolta) said "Lynk, your pork is ready!" HA HA HA! So funny!

- The lead-in to "Good Morning, Baltimore"

- The buildup to "Nicest Kids in Town" (the girls running home, and the dancers getting ready)

- The entirety of "Welcome to the 60s", particularly when Edna tries on her brand new dress. That number was pure magic.

- "Oh, Wilbur. Knights in armor don't come any shinier than you." Awww!

- "I Know Where I've Been"

- All of "You Can't Stop the Beat"

I didn't expect to enjoy this film, but LOVED it! (seeing Travolta in a dress was not high on my list of "must-sees", but I warmed up to him)
The highlight was, for me-----Seaweed! (Elijah?) He was amazing!
There was an unfinished part for me, tho---(SPOILER)

In the play,Tracy, etc. serve time in jail----but in the movie---Tracy is never apprehended. What happens to her?

For me, there were a lot...These made me just want to jump out of my seat:

*John Waters' cameo
*Ricki Lake's cameo
*Elijah's singing and dancing in "Run and Tell That" AND Taylor Parks' as well...they both blew me away!!!
*"I Can Hear the Bells" makes me pee a little more every time I see it, especially the dodgeball bit, LOL
*The whole "Ladies Choice" sequence, especially leading up to Zac's lusty howl...the hip thrusting is out of control...as my friend said, "He's gonna need to change his pants"...LOL
*The Dynamites in "The New Girl in Town" and the end of "Welcome to the 60's"...makes you just go DAMN!
*The barrel roll (I think thats what its called) that one of the male dancers does during "You Can't Stop the Beat" (the one thats in all the trailers/commercials) amazes me every time.

There's a lot more that I love but these are some of the highlights :)
