Um, no.

I meant $3 million! Whoops! Must have had a few drinks already!

This is a critical point that's overlooked in the above. Producers only relate to productions, not to the underlying properties, and rights holders don't really have the wherewithal (not to mention that there is not really much to fight about).

Regarding what Stone said, I'm not even sure that is his firmly held conviction so much as a throwaway but it is also worth remembering that producers do not speak with a unified voice on this (or anything) and many of his colleagues strongly disagree.

There are so many bootlegs on YouTube, it’s kind of curious why none of them have been taken down. Like why are the several bootlegs of An*thing Goes not being copyrighted by Roundabout or how come you still see the Ca*rie video? I just think, producers don’t care/are complicit to the illegal videos.

There was a bootleg on YouTube of Katrina Lenk singing "Being Alive" in Company, but it was taken down. It was obviously from one of the previews before the shutdown. Someone connected with the show must've found out about it.

Well, what about shows currently running with a dozen or so bootlegs on YouTube. Not counting Wicked, you can easily find videos of Phantom, Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon, and while it was running Waitress. I think many of those shows producers have adopted the same attitude as the Wicked producers and it’s only growing the mentality that they are good marketing tools.

You can "think" whatever you want, but you would be wrong and wishing doesn't make it so. And as to one of those shows I know that as a matter of fact. Wanna know who doesn't agree with you? Follow the money.

That's definitely not true for Waitress. I remember walking by the theater/stage door one night and there was a kerfuffle because they caught someone filming. They were preparing to send security in to make the person delete the footage. Also, I'm pretty sure Sara Bareilles has commented asking people to not tape the show.
