Sadly, if that is the case, the July 13th date seems to be the end of the one year contracts. I suspect with the buzz Hamilton has received, I wouldn't be surprised if a good portion of the cast already has something else lined up.

Lin is also in that Mary Poppins sequel, so he'll be leaving to film that and will probably be out for three or four months.

Also, re: Groff's concert date, sure, his contract might be over by July 16, but plenty of other performers (Kelli O'Hara comes to mind in recent memory) have taken certain performances off for contractual obligations elsewhere. Doesn't mean he'll be necessarily OUT by then.

This person asked Jonathan and he confirmed.  I guess it's a rumor until officially announced.

Seeing the show on April 26, after Groff is supposedly leaving. Would love to see Rannells replace him.

Oh man that's so soon for Groff! Sad (for us)!

Isn't Lin going to be opening the London production -- if that is actually happening?

Aren't the filming periods for Netflix shows unusually short? He could come back.

Yes, very probably, but it's not happening for another year

I think Thayne and Andrew could fill in until the permanent King starts.

I think Andrew Chappelle is actually first cover for King George now, but regardless, an understudy can only fill a role full time for limited period.  If a person is going to be out for a significant amount of time (I believe more then 2 weeks), contract changes and casting has to be altered.

I was wondering the same thing.  I would hope not but who knows.  I guess we'll have to wait and see on May 2nd when the moninations are announced.

This series will be shooting until the end of the year according to an interview with the other lead actor who was cast.

DB13 said: "If you get the opportunity to see the original cast, I highly recommend that you do so. Some of the performances totally blew my mind, namely the women in the cast (who, in my opinion, steal the show). I found a really interesting article that articulates the hype pretty well; check it out: http://www.everydaybroadway.com/why-hamilton-is-so-amazing/

That wasn't interesting or articulate. More like obnoxious and poorly written. He (she? It's not really clear, although judging by how excited the writer's boyfriend is about musical theater, I'll just assume they're a gay couple) lost me in the first paragraph, when he called Hamilton the "greatest piece of theater you'll ever see." Riiiight. Immediately after that, he posits that we're all sitting there thinking, "How the HELL [emphasis his] did he see the show?" Well, no, I wasn't thinking that. Hundreds of thousands of people have seen the show. You know how I saw the show? I went to the web site and bought tickets. Wasn't difficult.

Then he lists five reasons why the show is so good, one of which is "it's not all rap." Hmm. And that's after he condescendingly tells us to look up the word "juxtaposition" -- and then proceeds to explain it to us anyway. And then for some reason he calls the revolving stage a "donut" (he couldn't have said "ring"?). I don't who this writer is, but I hate him already.

I read groff will be leaving then will come back in April and stay until July where he'll permanently leave.

I think that lead actor has no clue what he's talking about. Since most Netflix shows are about 10-13 episodes per season, it does not take 8 months to film an entire season. Regular "network" TV shows that have around 22 episodes in a season shoot from August til usually around April, so shows with about have that many episodes should only take maybe 4 months. Unless it's a show like Sense8 which shot across many countries around the world.

Production starts on May 2nd.  According to Holt McCallany (the other lead actor), it will take 15 days to shoot one episode.  That's 2 episodes a month.  No idea how many episodes the first season will be but based on your information maybe 10-12.  So maybe filming finishes in September/October.  We know very little about the show at this point. I thought filming to the end of the year was a stretch.  Here's an interview with Jonathan's co-star where he gives some more information.

If that's the case, it would actually be less than 2 episodes a month....actors and techies get days off, too!

If Jonathan is leaving in two weeks, is it more likely his last show will be April 9th or 11th?
