^ it is news, we thought/assumed they'd close b'way before the tour and put Steph Block in the tour but I guess not. Or maybe she didn't want to travel.
Talented girl, but I don't like older Renos. Sorry Rachel!
She's one year older than Stephanie Block and four years older than Sutton Foster.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
That's great news. I heard that she was terrific in this role when she did it in regional productions. The other day when I was at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas I saw that the tour was coming to the city, so this is another reason for me to go.
Crap! Now I'm really upset that the ""Anything Goes" tour is not coming to Seattle next season. I would much rather see this over "Flashdance: The Musical". Hopefully she stays with the tour for the long run...
Can she dance?! Can she dance??? Oh yeah. Saw her in Victor/Victoria and discovered a new idol. She was one of the best things about that show. I have worked on so many productions of Anything Goes and had no big urge to see this production. I think I have had a change of heart. Ms. York will make a superb Reno.
I saw Rachel York as Reno in 2002 in a Los Angeles production. As much as I loved Sutton and Patti in the last two Broadway revivals, Rachel simply OWNS the role. In addition to her fabulous singing and dancing, Rachel has amazing comic chops which bring the role to a whole new level. As much as I liked Sutton Foster and Patti Lupone's takes on the role, I absolutely LOVED Rachel's Reno.
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
Dang! Why isn't this coming to Boston next season?
When I saw the Broadway in Boston lineup a few weeks ago I was disappointed that Anything Goes wasn't on the list - even though the season is really pretty spectacular with Book of Mormon and War Horse included. But now I'm really sad - esp. after what BroadwayBaby6 just had to say!
Since the entire tour schedule hasn't been announced, might there be a chance that it will be added to Boston? I don't know how these things work.
