I really don't like restoration comedies. I find them didactic, repetitive, obvious and really not that…comedic. So, with resignation I headed to the Vagabond Players in Fells Point to witness their production of Moliere's The Misanthrope. And here's what happened - I enjoyed it.

BSO Opens 2013-14 Season with Scheherazade & 1812 Overture, Sept. 20-22

Music Director Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture on Friday, September 20 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, andSaturday, September 21 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. Also on the program is the United States' premiere of the BSO co-commission of John Adams' Saxophone Concerto, performed by Tim McAllister. Tickets have now been released for individual sale for Dear Edwina. This charming show-within-a-show chronicles Edwina Spoonapple's quest to woo a talent scout by giving musical advice for the neighborhood from her garage. She counsels her community of Paw Paw, Michigan on everyday etiquette through zany songs and dances produced by the Spoonapple Repertory Theatre. While Dear Edwina, Jr. is a favorite of school drama departments, the full version with adult actors is rarely produced. This production marks the area premiere of the fully staged production of this title, which received two Drama Desk Award Nominations for its Off-Broadway run in 2009.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Ratifies Three-Year Contract with BSO Musicians Through 2016

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the settlement of a new three-year contract between the Association and members of Local 40-543 of the American Federation of Musicians. The new collective bargaining agreement went into effect on September 9, 2013 and will extend through September 11, 2016, replacing the previous two-year contract, which expired on September 8, 2013. The successful settlement of the contract and the terms ratified by both the musicians and the Board of Directors demonstrate a commitment by both parties to uphold the BSO's long tradition of artistic excellence while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Further, after the economic downturn necessitated the renegotiation of the 2008 contract with significant reductions in compensation and benefits, this new agreement signals increased confidence in the orchestra's long-term financial outlook.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre launched its Children Theatre in 1996. Since then, no show has ever been as popular as the smash hit Pinkalicious - The Musical. When the fun, family friendly first appeared on the Children's Theatre stage, it was to open the 2012 Season. The production quickly sold out. When the run was briefly expanded, those performances also sold out. Beginning tonight, September 14, Pinkalicious will return to the Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway, back by overwhelming demand!

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) announces the musical Goodnight Moon will open its Professional 2013-2014 62nd Season. Based on the cherished book by Margaret Wise Brown, this popular show, which earned ATMTC its first Helen Hayes Award nomination, will run September 20- October 27, 2013. Goodnight Moon is directed by Roberta Gasbarre, (director of the 2010 Helen Hayes Outstanding Production- TYA nominee - The Red Balloon), and features Anissa Hartline (2006-2008 National Tour of Cats) as the Little Old Lady Whispering Hush in addition to ATMTC's youth performers as the Bunny and his friend Mouse.
