Imagination Stage Announces 2017-18 Fall Semester Highlights

By: Jul. 27, 2017

Imagination Stage is proud to announce its roster of classes for the Fall semester. These theatre arts classes seek to inspire all young people to discover their voice and engage with the world around them. The Fall 2017-2018 schedule features the Fall Class Sampler, the IStage Performance Ensemble presenting the Tony Award-winning musical, Pippin, and exciting new classes beginning as early as September 16.

Registration for the Fall semester is available online at www.imaginationstage.org, over the phone at
301-280-1636, or in-person at our Bethesda location, 4908 Auburn Avenue. Ten-week classes and first session Early Childhood six-week classes begin September 16; second session six-week classes begin October 29.

"We are excited for students to find their voice as they engage in our theatre arts classes this year," shared Joanne Seelig, Director of Education at Imagination Stage. "Whether creating a new character in a creative drama class, editing a film in our filmmaking program, or performing choreography in a dance class students have a chance to ignite their imagination while expressing who they are."

The FREE Fall Class Sampler on September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. allows students to participate in a class similar to what they would experience in a full Imagination Stage session. Students will get the opportunity to take a sample class, parents and guardians can ask questions to the Faculty and Education Staff, and everyone will meet teachers and fellow students. Pre-registration begins online starting August 2; walk-ups welcome.

The upcoming semester schedule features creative classes to engage students of all ages and levels of expertise. Newly themed classes include You & Me: Under the Stars and You & Me: Creating with Color (12-36 mos), Creative Drama: Dragontales, and Dance: Hamilton (Gr. 4-6).

This semester only, students in Grades 6-12 are eligible to audition for the Fall IStage Performance Ensemble. This group of talented student-actors will breathe new life into the Broadway classic Pippin. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day. With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), Pippin's message is universal and continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world. Students perform on The Lerner Family Theatre stage, the same stage as the professional productions of the 2017-2018 Season.
