This fall, Bess Wohl's Liberation, directed by Whitney White, moves to Broadway following a critically acclaimed, award-winning run at Roundabout Theatre Company. Qween Jean is the costume designer who gets to give each of these women an identity, and it's not a job that she is taking lightly. She just checked in with BroadwayWorld to tell us all about what Liberation means to her,  and why this is play that audiences will not want to miss.  ​ ​

Almost a year after its triumphant return to the stage at New York City Center, Ragtime is returning to Broadway. Shaina Taub and Ben Levi Ross have been along for the ride, playing real life activist 'Emma Goldman', and fictional anarchist 'Younger Brother' respectively. The duo took a break from rehearsals to check in with BroadwayWorld and tell us all about the strange, insistent music that will give us all something to think about in 2025.

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is coming to Broadway. The friends leading the new musical are Christiani Pitts (King Kong, A Bronx Tale) and Sam Tutty, who (along with the show's creators) is making his Broadway debut. The duo checked in with BroadwayWorld to tell us all about how excited they are to continue their journey to Broadway.

Just last fall, film and television star Christopher Lowell was gearing up for a major career milestone... his Broadway debut. He went on to take his first official Broadway bow at the Hayes Theatre in the acclaimed Second Stage production of Leslye Headland's Cult of Love, on December 12, 2024. Exactly one year later, Lowell will be back on Broadway, at the Hayes Theatre, starring in yet another Second Stage production- Marjorie Prime. ​

Samuel D. Hunter will officially make his West End writing debut in just days with Clarkston, led by Joe Locke. Then just weeks later, he'll make his Broadway debut with Little Bear Ridge Road- a play he specifically wrote for its star and director, Broadway icons Laurie Metcalf and Joe Mantello. Sam took a break from rehearsals for Clarkston to check in with BroadwayWorld and tell us all about this exciting new play.  ​

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, NYC Tourism + Conventions (NYC Tourism), and The Broadway League presented “Founded By Broadway,” a free live concert to celebrate the 400th anniversary of New York City and spotlight Broadway’s vital role in the city’s history. 54 BELOW will soon present LxL Productions’ 54 debut show, ‘54 Sings Phil Collins,’ on October 14, 2025. You’ve seen him as the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis, and from his solo works, such as the animated film Tarzan.

After years of developing a revised version of the 1986 musical with Danny Strong (who has written the new book), Michael Mayer is finally ushering the final product back to Broadway, where it hasn't been seen in almost four decades. Before rehearsals began, Mayer checked in with BroadwayWorld to tell us all about how he's setting up the board to create a Chess for 2025.  ​

DOWNTON ABBEY: THE GRAND FINALE, the cinematic return of the global phenomenon, follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. Tony Award-winner James Monroe Iglehart and  Cheryl Porter took their first bows in & Juliet on Broadway. Iglehart plays 'Lance,' and Porter plays 'Angélique,' taking over their roles following Joey Fatone and Jeannette Bayardelle respectively. Check out photos here!

Manhattan Concert Productions will continue its acclaimed Broadway Series with Jane Eyre, coming to David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center in 2026. The concert will be led by Erika Henningsen as the title character and Ramin Karimloo as Rochester. We have all of the details! here!

Gatsby: An American Myth, the brand-new musical stage adaptation of the legendary F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, will be directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer. A reading of Gatsby: An American Myth is planned in London for this week, with further plans for the musical to be announced soon.

Just last May, playwright James Ijames took the stage at Columbia to inspire the graduates of 2024 (watch his speech in full below). Now, just over a year later, he is checking in with BroadwayWorld as he looks towards the future of the American theatre and how he can make an impact in his new role at Columbia.
