What did our critic think of CABARET at Guthrie Theater?

If a show based around love, obsession, and a spiraling descent into madness seems like an alluring night at the theater, look no further than Theater Latté Da’s newest production of the rarely mounted Sondheim-Lapin collaboration, Passion.

Even the best laid plans can have their wrinkles and loose ends that may eventually unravel. This is evidenced in the Guthrie Theater’s newest production, The Nacirema Society.

Mounting a successfully engaging show that is based on one of the most recognizable properties of the past decade is not an easy feat and at times it shows in the Children’s Theatre Company’s (CTC) current production of Disney’s Frozen.

In what is surely one of the more profound productions currently on stage in the Twin Cities, Theater Latté Da’s newest offering is the 2015 musical Fun Home. A musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel about her upbringing in Pennsylvania. Through the trials and tribulations of her life, she reflects on the relationship that she had with her father, a closeted gay man with many faults of his own, and the self discovery that she encounters as she learns to find her place in the 1970’s.

BroadwayWorld was lucky enough to chat with Gillian about her experiences and what she hopes to bring to a role that has become truly legendary.

What did our critic think of THE SNOWY DAY at MN Opera?

In Milo Cramer’s searing one man show, School Pictures, he carefully and masterfully brings to life the stories of students that he had the pleasure of tutoring for many years in New York City. Told through a series of songs, accompanied by a variety of instruments all played by Cramer, he details his experiences while tutoring ten different students.

It may be the dead of winter in Minnesota but that is not stopping the Guthrie Theater from taking audiences to the moonlight filled forests of Athens in the middle of summer. Yes, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is back on the Guthrie stage and this ravishing production proves why it remains one of the most cherished of the Bard’s works.

Through the combination of kindness and community, we witness not only a change in the course of Who-History, but the size and capacity of the old green guy’s heart.
