Joe Sarafolean - Page 3

Joe Sarafolean

Joe Sarafolean is a Twin Cities native who became captivated with the arts from a young age. His true devotion to theatre began when he was cast in Annie in the 5th grade and since then, it has grown into a full blown obsession.

A graduate of Winona State University majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in theatre. Joe now works in executive communications and is always sure to carve out time to enjoy the arts.

When he is not attending various productions around the Twin Cities, he can be seen driving around town belting show tunes, enjoying a libation at a variety of local breweries and distilleries or enjoying a quiet night at home with his husband and his pup.

In what is surely one of the more profound productions currently on stage in the Twin Cities, Theater Latté Da’s newest offering is the 2015 musical Fun Home. A musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel about her upbringing in Pennsylvania. Through the trials and tribulations of her life, she reflects on the relationship that she had with her father, a closeted gay man with many faults of his own, and the self discovery that she encounters as she learns to find her place in the 1970’s.

Murder, mayhem, mania, and melodramatics. These words usually only point in one direction, Agatha Christie. True to form, her iconic murder mystery play, The Mousetrap, includes all of these things and more. Placed in the very capable hands of the Guthrie Theater’s team, The Mousetrap has come to life in a devilishly delightful production.

It may be the dead of winter in Minnesota but that is not stopping the Guthrie Theater from taking audiences to the moonlight filled forests of Athens in the middle of summer. A miserly and miserable, ever-so-cantankerous Grinch has observed the despicable Christmas joy of the Whos with disdain, from a distance, for decades. Enough! In this CTC holiday favorite, filled with music and Seussian rhymes, he plots the greatest heist imaginable—stealing the very thing they love the most! Until, that is, the smallest of the Whos, tiny Cindy Lou, extends a hand. Through the combination of kindness and community, we witness not only a change in the course of Who-History, but the size and capacity of the old green guy’s heart.
