Citizen Theatre’s newest project ‘Forgotten Places’ is an unforgettable immersive theatre and art experience inspired by Kingston’s unique history of UFO sightings.

Citizen Theatre is a professional independent theatre company led by Kingston locals, Artistic Director Jayde Kirchert and Visual Designer Stu Brown, a creative couple from Mentone.

After delighting City of Stonnington locals, theatre goers and critics with an exciting site-specific immersive experience at the iconic Chapel Off Chapel in February this year, the local couple are ready to give Kingston a taste of their unique brand of cutting-edge art in September. As recipients of the Kingston Arts Grant Program, they will transform the Kingston Arts Centre into a colourful, interactive, cosmic adventure that imagines Kingston as a special place among the stars.

The immersive experience can be thought of as a ‘living gallery’ and will offer audiences the chance to see, hear and feel different types of contemporary art. It will include beautiful abstract paintings of the local area, elegant design and professional performers treating audiences to an array of incredible live music, inspiring poetry and quirky dances. Unlike anything Kingston has seen before, ‘Forgotten Places’ is sure to give audiences of all ages a transformative experience to change the way they interact with the world around them for years to come. This unique event is not to be missed!

Citizen Theatre Artistic Director Jayde Kirchert says audiences can expect to be surprised. “With lots of different performances and visual art being presented, audiences can let their curiosity guide their journey through our immersive experience. No two people will have the same experience.”

Citizen Theatre has been producing new and original works since 2013, including ‘Nude’ (Alex Theatre 2015), ‘Alexithymia’ (Poppy Seed Theatre Festival 2017) and ‘Ascent’ (Theatre Works, 2018). Their most recent work, ‘When The Light Leaves’ was called “...a moving and nuanced four-hander, featuring elegant design and emotionally charged performances" by The Age.

The team includes Artistic Director Jayde Kirchert, resident designer Stu Brown, resident composer Imogen Cygler, resident costume designer Aislinn Naughton, along with company performers Willow Sizer (Finucane & Smith’s Dance Hall), Jack Wunsch (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and Freya Pragt (The Bacchae).

"It’s a talented, emotionally honest dive into a tragic human situation." - Cameron Woodhead, The Age (When The Light Leaves 2019)
