Our little chucklehut just received some major acclaim! The Urban Land Institute (ULI), an international organization dedicated to championing cutting-edge and sustainable development, nominated Dad's Garage Theatre for their 2016 Atlanta awards. The nomination is for the transformation of a former-church into the "Forever Home" for Atlanta's most popular improv theatre. Dad's Garage purchased the property at 569 Ezzard in January 2015, following a Kickstarter campaign that brought in more than $150,000. That campaign was the most successful live theatre fundraiser in Kickstarter history, and received contributions from across the world.

Newnan Theatre Company kicks off its 39th season with the comedy Moonlight and Magnolias by Ron Hutchinson. Directed by Jeff Allen, this show is a very funny look at the real-life events surrounding the writing of the screenplay to the film classic Gone With the Wind. It opens Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 11. It will be presented on the Mainstage.

4th Annual Telluride Mountainfilm Festival on Tour Next Weekend

Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour, the touring arm of Telluride Mountainfilm, makes its fourth annual stop at the Plaza Atlanta Theatre next weekend. Year-round and worldwide, Telluride Mountainfilm takes a selection of its festival films on the road and the Atlanta stop,Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour ATL (TMF-ATL), is August 25, 26 and 27 at The Plaza Atlanta Theatre. At this year's festival, festival officials will announce the inaugural winner of the scholarship program that will benefit local, emerging filmmakers. Because of demand, the festival has added a Thursday night screening, to spotlight a specific film. There will be a full panel talkback after that screening (details below). The festival will host screenings Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7:30pm. On Friday morning, there is a Kidz Kino event for area school children supported by the Alliance Theatre Educational Outreach Team.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), North Fulton's only professional theatre company, opens its 24th Season with the Southeastern premiere of Ghost The Musical at the Theatre's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Performances have limited run dates for three weeks only from September 15th through October 2nd, 2016, Wednesdays through Sundays. The Woodruff Arts Center announces its sixth Free Family Festival, which will take place on September 11 from 1 - 4 PM as part of the CREATE ATL Family Fun at The Woodruff Arts Center initiative.  The Free Family Festival will feature family-oriented programming led by the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and High Museum of Art. The festival will include live performances from master Jamaican musicians & storytellers, scavenger hunts with Eric Carle's famous children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, interactive musical experiences like Pop, Zing, Boom! with Dave Holland of Beatin' Path Rhythm Events and Alliance Live! Hollywood Squares.

The Center for Puppetry Arts Set to Launch Jim Henson's Labyrinth: Journey to Goblin City Exhibit

The Center for Puppetry Arts will launch the Dean Dubose Smith Special Exhibits Gallery on Friday, September 2 with the world premiere exhibition of Jim Henson's Labyrinth: Journey to Goblin City, A 30th Anniversary Celebration. The collection consists of items that have never been on display, including Goblin puppets, the plaster casts Hoggle's head and the Worm, along with numerous weapons and staffs from the final battle sequence. Also included are the original set renderings by Elliot Scott and design drawings by Brian Froud, the well-known English fantasy illustrator who collaborated with Henson on both Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. The exhibit will feature original costumes and masks, as well as famous iconic artifacts, including Jareth's crystal balls, David Bowie's costume and a 13-hour clock.
