Pay It Forward At Tron Theatre
It's panto time at the Tron Theatre and this year's offering, Mammy Goose (27 Nov '19 - 6 Jan '19), is once again written by, directed by and starring the undisputed king of panto Johnny McKnight and welcomes McCrea Financial Services, one of Scotland's leading independent financial advisers, as our sponsors.
This year's run also sees a repeat of their hugely successful Pay It Forward initiative which was set up in 2016 to enable people who experience disadvantage to visit the theatre. Generous audience members at last year's performances of Alice in Weegieland donated over £10,000 which has enabled us to offer free tickets, refreshments and treats to a wide variety of groups including the NSPCC, Scottish Refugee Council and Glasgow Women's Aid.
Pay It Forward has become a popular way of helping theatres increase access to their work and it feels like a particularly worthwhile initiative for the Tron to undertake during the festive season. CrossReach - Daisy Chain Early Years Project benefitted from our scheme last year, bringing a group to see Alice in Weegieland. As Kenny Fulton, Team Leader of the group said:
One service user from this year's Scottish Refugee Council group said:
"It was a time to be out, feel the air of Christmas and just relieve some burden in you. The events were helpful because It made us feel Christmas was in the air, and we belong, not we are separated from love of Christmas because we are asylum seekers. It made us feel we can also enjoy and feel Christmas".
They have also announced that they will be running the Pay It Forward scheme once again for our 2019 pantomime Cinderfella, meaning that more local groups and charities will benefit from funds donated by this year's generous Mammy Goose audiences.
