'POP-UP' IMAGINATION PLAYGROUND Tour Visits Manhattan, 7/17 & 7/18

East End Avenue and East 85th Street

EVENT & PHOTO-OP: The Imagination Playground "pop up" tour makes its fourth stop at the Catbird Playground in Carl Schurz Park. Kids will play with the Loose Parts, including foam blocks, mats, wagons and fabric, that will be featured at the flagship Imagination Playground opening in late July near the South Street Seaport.

DETAILS: In preparation for the grand opening of the Imagination Playground at Burling Slip in lower Manhattan, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation is conducting an Imagination Playground tour throughout the five boroughs. At five sites over five different weekends, kids across New York City will have a chance to play with the blue foam Imagination Playground blocks and Loose Parts that will be a main component of the permanent playground at Burling Slip.

Imagination Playground is the product of over five years of David Rockwell's extensive research on play and playgrounds. It is a progressive concept in children's play that offers a rich environment of diverse materials that encourage unstructured, child-directed "free play," where children determine their own activities, alone and with their peers.
