James McCann Picks Up Three Gongs At The Adelaide Comedy Awards

Australian comedian, writer, poet, playwright, political philosopher, rapper and radio announcer James Donald Forbes McCann has picked up no less than three awards at the 2018 Adelaide Comedy awards. Other winners included Amos Gill, Fiona O'Loughlin, and Tom Gleeson. McCann was the only comedian to pick up more than a single award on the night.

The creator of hit festival shows Wolf Creek: The Musical and The Sound Of Nazis collected an "aching back" (Best Writer), "Jester's Jester" (Peer's Choice) and Adelaide Comedian of The Year award at Adelaide's comedy hub Rhino Room on Sunday 16 December.

James has been published in a variety of publications as broad as The Spectator, News.com.au, Junkee, Quadrant, Splitsider, Pedestrian.tv, The Adelaide Review, Rip It Up, Huffington Post, VICE, ZOO Magazine and The Australian. The local lad sold out his entire Adelaide Fringe season in 2017 and was heard as the host of Weekend Breakfast on Adelaide's flagship Hit 107 radio station for Australia's largest broadcaster, Southern Cross Austereo.

As a playwright, James' most acclaimed works to date are his hit comedy musicals The Sound of Nazis and Wolf Creek: The Musical. These parodies of the blockbuster movies quickly gathered cult followings, critical acclaim and comparisons to Mel Brooks and Monty Python. Wolf Creek: The Musical won a 'Best Emerging Comedy' award at Adelaide Fringe, and was attended by Greg McLean, the director of Wolf Creek (the movie), who heralded James' take on the film as "hilarious and genuinely entertaining... the feel good torture porn show everyone will love."

A frequent headliner on the Australian comedy circuit, this latest crop of trophies is an addition to the growing pile he has gathered since reaching the state finals of prestigious comedy competition, triple j's RAW Comedy. He was voted by Adelaide's comedians as the best in the city in 2016, 2017 and now in 2018 ahead of the upcoming Adelaide Fringe Festival!

James will be playing five shows at the 2019 Adelaide Fringe, don't miss the chance to see one of Adelaide's finest comedians, live!
