The producers of Heartworm, a new romantic comedy that will open Off-Broadway in June 2006, have teamed up with the Picasso Veterinary Fund through the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to help the cats and dogs of New York City.

The pets that benefit from the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals are taken in by NYC's Animal Care and Control and require medical attention after they are transferred to one of the 65 participating shelters and rescue groups that comprise the organization. The Picasso Veterinary Fund pays for the necessary medical care and gives each of these animals a second chance for a good life with an adoptive family.

Additionally, the I ♥ My Dog Contest was founded by the producers of Heartworm on February 1st. Running through October 15th, the contest will conclude with the selection of a dog who will become the Heartworm Mascot. To enter, contestants are asked to submit – either by e-mail or snail mail – a photo of their pooch, along with a tip their dog has given them, such as, "They may hold the leash but we have more legs!" The cost of entry is $20, and $10 for each additional entry.

The winner, selected by the director and producers of Heartworm, will receive two free round-trip tickets to anywhere for anyone, $200 in cash, unique theater-related prizes, and doggie-goodies. Every two months leading up to the winner selection, twenty Top Dogs photos will be selected by a national panel of veterinary staff and posted on Heartworm's website; the winner will be selected from among those photos.

Donations to the production of Heartworm are also encouraged. To entice website visitors to donate, Heartworm Productions is offering donators the chance to win a variety of Heartworm-releated acknowledgements--from having their name listed in the Playbill to appearing for one night only with the cast, on stage.

Heartworm Productions will donate 10% of contest entry fees and also 10% of all donations received throughout the run of the contest to the Picasso Veterinary Fund.

Contest, donation, and play details are available at www.Heartworm-play.com.
