NEWS & SPECIAL EVENTS

SPOTLIGHTERS Special "Angels" Performance, Special Price!

This Thursday - Nov 2, 2006 - at 8pm - SPOTLIGHTERS Theatre will present an additional performance of Angels in America/>/>.  The legendary epic of our time -- winner of Tony, Pulitzer, and Emmy Awards -- is boldly re-imagined on SPOTLIGHTERS' intimate and spare stage, in a mythical co-production by New York City/>/>'s MadShag Performance Group.

See the performance that the City Paper says, "…is a roller-coaster rush of comedy, anger, compassion, guilt, and survival, all tightly wound around a script riddled with abject humor and coiled linguistic camouflage to conceal "true" identities. Angels in America/>/> is admittedly not for everyone--only for Americans who have ever been in love and/or relationships or for those Americans who plan to. (CityPaper - Bret McCabe)

CHESAPEAKE SHAKESPEARE COMPANY: Love's Labor's Lost

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents its 2006 Shakespeare Workshop production of Shakespeare's witty comedy Love's Labor's Lost, weekends November 3-19, 2006 at the Howard/> County/> Center/> for the Arts in Ellicott City/>.

The Shakespeare Workshops focus on the play, the actors and taking risks; technical aspects are secondary.  This production of Love's Labor's Lost will be set on a Western ranch resort, where the men play hard, and the women get pampered and tells the story of King Ferdinand and his men who have sworn to focus solely on academics for three years without the comforts of wine, good food and women.  Unfortunately, the Princess of France and her staff have arrived on a diplomatic mission.  How do you negotiate when you can't talk to the other side?  And what happens when diplomacy turns to love?  Mischief and hilarity ensue as the battle of the sexes finds a witty and poignant end.

"It's a nice piece for our Shakespeare Workshop slot. It's a play with a lot of charm, but it doesn't often get produced. Jenny Leopold and the cast are infusing the play with a tremendous amount of energy," comments Ian Gallanar, Artistic Director of the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company

Directed by CSC Artistic Associate Jenny Leopold, the production will feature both CSC company members and newcomers.  Leopold has been a presence on the Howard/> County/> arts scene for several years, serving on the faculty of Howard/> Community College/>/> and as the current president of the Howard County Arts Council.  This will be Leopold's first time directing in the Center on whose board she has served for many years.  CSC company members Jacob Rothermel, Bob Alleman, Ashly Ruth Fishell, Steve Beall, Rebecca Ellis and Lorraine Imwold will all be taking part.

Love's Labor's Lost will be presented at the Howard/> County/> Center/> for the Arts, in Ellicott City/>.  Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, November 3-19, 2006.  Tickets are $20 for the general public, $18 for seniors, and $15 for children under 18.  All children under 18 are free on all Sunday matinees.  For tickets can be purchased online at www.chesapeakeshakespeare.com, by calling 866.811.4111 or prior to the performance.

Don't forget the BroadwayWorld.com discount on opening weekend!  See above or the November Calendar for details! (Review to be posted 11/06/2006)

DUNDALK COMMUNITY THEATRE: Jane Eyre: The Musical

Baltimore.BroadwayWorld.com welcomes a new addition to our growing family of participating theatres – Dundalk Community Theatre!

Dundalk Community Theatre opens its season with a Baltimore Premiere of the musical adaptation of Jane Eyre.  DCT, in cooperation with the Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Department of the Liberal Arts Division, CCBC, presents this limited engagement from November 3rd through November 12th, with performances Friday & Sat. at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm.

Jane Eyre: The Musical a Tony-nominated show from 2000 features a score by Paul Gordon, who has previously composed hit music recorded by artists such as Bette Midler, Amy Grant, Smokey Robinson/>, Quincy Jones/>, and Patti LaBelle; as well as two number one pop hits, "Next Time I Fall in Love" and "Friends and Lovers".  The show is filled with soaring melodies and a romantic lyricism uncommon in the modern Broadway musical… a sweeping love story, breath-taking in its scope and beauty.

Jane Eyre is a haunting retelling of the Charlotte Bronte classic about an orphan girl who grows up to become the governess of Thornfield Hall. There she meets and falls in love with the enigmatic Edward Rochester, an Earl with a dark secret. Having overcome the obstacles brought on by an abusive childhood, the death of a childhood friend and the prejudice inherent in a relationship between two people socially worlds apart, Jane marries Rochester/>/>. Her wedding day is marred when she discovers his secret: he already has a wife, a half-crazed lunatic hidden in the attic…

Director Nancy Powichroski has gathered a wonderful cast including:  Ken Ewing as Rochester, Andrea Smith as Jane, Kathryn Smith as Mrs. Fairfax, Julia Unitas as Young Jane and Kim Willes as Blanche Ingram.  Set Designer Marc Smith continues working his magic with a set allowing the show to flow from scene to scene as the show calls.

For Reservations or information, please call the box office at 410-780-6369.  Ticket prices are as follows:  General $21 and Discount $18.  Performances are Friday/Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm, Nov 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12.
