Tapestry Dance Company presents the premiere of TIME

(Austin, TX) Ė Tapestry Dance Company, North Americaís only repertory tap dance company presents the premiere of Acia Grayís TIME Ė A Journey Toward Present Grace.

ďIt's been a few seasons since Tapestry Dance Company has tackled a premiere that deals with a topic other than an historical perspective or tribute to the incredible history and legacy of tap dance. With "The Souls of Our Feet"" and "April Fools" being two of those critically acclaimed and successful examples, returning to my love of contemporary and theatrical work has been a wonderful journey over the last few weeks. This ensemble creation shows a beautiful diversity to the company that is rarely seen in performance. I'm honored to have such a creative "team" in place to play with. I can't wait to witness the final product on opening nightĒ ĖAcia Gray, Artistic Director

Working in a collaborative playground with the dancers of Tapestry, this new work "Time" presents a rhythm journey based on a concept and definition of "the manmade illusion of control we call time."

Where have we been, what are we doing, where are we going, and how do we get there? - are just some of the questions that have brought unique rhythmic responses not only from the pallet of director/choreographer Acia Gray but some of the best young tap dancers on the international stage today Ė the members of Tapestry Dance Company. Not only are these artists presenting new ensemble work within the entire evening but their own comedic as well as poignant choreography all responding to the challenge of the definition of time.

BWW Review: DON GIOVANNI, London Coliseum, 30 September 2016
by Alexandra Coghlan - Oct 1, 2016

English National Opera has been having a hard Time with Don Giovanni lately. First there was Calixto Bieito's groggy, pastel-coloured nightmare (who could forget the pistachio leather dentist's chair), which paled into adequacy when compared to Rufus Norris's bafflingly unlovely (and just generally baffling) vision that followed. Richard Jones's new production is in no way a failure - there's far too much intelligence here for that, as well as more than one flash of utter brilliance - but it still feels like a show as yet not fully in focus. At his best Jones can make the most startlingly revisionist concept seem like it has always been staring you in face. Here his reading intrigues, compels, but never feels fully rooted in Mozart's music-drama. (more...)
