The season includes four shows that have never been produced at Music Circus: The smash hit musical comedy Legally Blonde, based on the hilarious film starring Reese Witherspoon; the family favorite Seussical, a journey through the witty and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss; Nice Work If You Can Get It, the song-and-dance spectacular filled with the music of George and Ira Gershwin; and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a brand new musical exploring the dark themes of the epic novel while featuring the beautiful music of the animated Disney film. Weeks of rehearsals, discussion, sharing of pictures, videos, and personal testimonies have all occurred while Columbus Children's Theatre (CCT) has been preparing for its third annual trip to the Junior Theater Festival (JTF) in Atlanta, Georgia. However, these efforts simply do not suffice to describe the energy of this event. I am reminded just how magical and transformative theatre is as I look at the faces of the 28 CCT students here at JTF - most which are attending for their first time. As I see the reactions from these kids walking through the doors for the first time, I cannot help but think how amazing the experience is for all of us, and how proud I am of the students who have crossed this threshold before and are willing and eager to provide guidance to their peers. Gallery Players continues its 49th season with the Seussical, the fantastic family musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss.  Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once On The Island and Ragtime)  have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite characters, with a rich and dazzling score to create an almost entirely sung-through show that transforms the theatre into the Jungle of Nool, the Circus McGurkus, the invisible world of the Whos, and beyond.  Seussical will be helmed by Barrie Gelles, with musical direction by Trevor M. The student produced showcase featured 28 of Columbus' best upcoming performers ages 10-15. In what has been a closely guarded secret until Tuesday when it was released to its newsletter and season ticket subscribers, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining announced that its summer show will be Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The show will be Alhambra's longest engagement of the year, running from June 15 through July 31. Tickets are now on sale to the public.  The Alhambra has traditionally staged a family-oriented show for its summer time period. Recent summer shows have included Shrek!, Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonkaand Cinderella.
