Review - Broadway Originals & The Master Builder
by Kristin Salaky - Oct 27, 2008

Three years ago I named D'Jamin Bartlett's performance of 'The Miller's Son' at BroadwayWorld's Standing Ovations IV concert, thirty-two years after she introduced the song in A Little Night Music, as one of my most memorable theatre moments of 2005. I may have to put her back on the list for 2008. At Sunday afternoon's Broadway Originals concert, the final entry of Town Hall's 4th Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival, Bartlett once again - in the original key - completely floored a New York audience with her rapid-fire deliver of Stephen Sondheim's patter combined with sterling vocals conveying an intensely cerebral sexuality. Called out to take a bow, she seemed sincerely surprised and overwhelmed at the cheers of the crowd. (more...)

MAME Brings 'A Little Christmas' to Looby Theatre thanks to Circle Players
by Jeffrey Ellis - Nov 20, 2009

Mame begins in the roaring '20s, when Mame Dennis is rolling in the dough and leads the life of an eccentric, Bohemian socialite. Things change when she is appointed guardian to her 10-year-old nephew Patrick. When the Great Depression hits, Mame becomes virtually penniless overnight - trying to make ends meet at any number of odd jobs, including one as a retail sales clerk, quite often failing but refusing to allow the times to dictate her mood or dampen her spirits. BWW Reviews: Ruby Lewis and the Cast of WE WILL ROCK YOU Live Up to the Title
by Teddy Robert - Nov 15, 2013

When attending a musical, some not so usual theatre goers prepare themselves for overly dramatic people narrating their lives through their belting vibratos and jazz squares. We Will Rock You takes the generic stereotypes and throws them out the window with a swift guitar toss and transforms those skeptical theatre goers into theatre fans. The show takes audience members on a whimsical commentary through the feared future of music, pop culture, technology and social norms all tied together by the musical styling's of none other than Queen. Jason Graae Wows Sterling's SRO House
by Don Grigware - Jan 24, 2011

On Sunday evening January 23, Jason Graae brought his electric 80th birthday tribute to Jerry Herman called Perfect Hermany: The Songs of Jerry Herman to Sterling's Upstairs @ Vitello's. Graae has long been a favorite comic actor/singer, because what he does on stage is totally Graae. No one makes you laugh constantly quite like Graae: he defies description; you must be in a room with him to fully appreciate the breadth and scope of his enormous talent. Adding to the comic anecdotes and songs during the 75-minute set were two solos on the oboe and one on the piano. Lee Tannen directed and John Boswell served as musical director/accompanist extraordinaire. (more...)
