Based on the novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis

Based on the play Auntie Mame by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee

“Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!” So says the aunt we all wished we had, Auntie Mame. This adored character of theatrical literature comes to the Lyric stage for the first time in Jerry Herman’s delightful musical “Mame.” Join Mame as she leads her young nephew Patrick through life in New York during the depression era; traveling and growing into a young man as Mame struggles to be a fit mother. Andrea Huber (Desireé Armfeldt from “A Little Night Music”) will be our Mame and Leigh Scarritt (Aunt Alicia from “Gigi”) is featured as her actress friend, Vera Charles. “Mame” features a great score including “Open A New Window,” “We Need A Little Christmas,” “You’re My Best Girl,” “Bosom Buddies,” and of course the title song, “Mame.” Don’t miss this family treat

BWW Reviews: MURDER FOR TWO a Devious Delight at the GeffenBWW Reviews: MURDER FOR TWO a Devious Delight at the Geffen
by Don Grigware - Jun 5, 2015

No surprise that the little musical comedy with a big bang, Murder for Two by Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair took off-Broadway by storm in 2013! Described as 'a musical comedy with a dash of Agatha Christie', it actually defies classification. Yes, it has music and a murder mystery plot and is screamingly funny, but it's a whole lot more. Only two performers provide as much or more entertainment than a big over-produced, full cast Broadway show. It covers a lot of ground in 100 minutes and with Jeff Blumenkrantz playing a bevy of suspects, both male and female, Brett Ryback essaying officer Marcus Moskowitz, who is determined to be promoted to detective by the end of the play - both of whom play the piano with a feverish passion - and guided by director Scott Schwartz's super-fast pace and frenetic staging, it's like a colossal roller coaster ride that while barreling along could at any second lose control, but never does. Now onstage at the Geffen Playhouse, audiences will be thrilled and bedazzled through August 2. (more...)

SOUND OFF Special Edition: 10 Thoughtful Wishes For CAMP 2: FREAKS IN NATURESOUND OFF Special Edition: 10 Thoughtful Wishes For CAMP 2: FREAKS IN NATURE
by Pat Cerasaro - Jun 17, 2015

Last night, acclaimed director Todd Graff unexpectedly announced plans to film a follow-up to 2003 cult favorite theatre-themed movie musical CAMP titled CAMP 2: FREAKS IN NATURE set to feature fellow Tony Award-winning icons Patti LuPone and Donna Murphy, among others, inspiring Broadway babies to excitedly anticipate the many musical selections that could potentially be presented as part of the project. Of course, the original film famously featured a young Anna Kendrick memorably belting out the COMPANY 11 o'clocker 'The Ladies Who Lunch' in addiiton to an unforgettable recreation of the original Michael Bennett-staged mini masterpiece from PROMISES, PROMISES, 'Turkey Lurkey Time' - plus some standout original tunes by the likes of Michael Gore and Lynn Ahrens, too - not to mention Stephen Sondheim himself appearing onscreen in a cameo role. Now, Graff himself promises at least one showstopper to match the ones in the first film, relaying, 'We're going to introduce some fabulous new additions, like Donna Murphy, Patti LuPone and a bevy of other reigning Broadway divas performing a demented version of 'Steppin' To The Bad Side' from DREAMGIRLS to be staged by the one and only Jerry Mitchell.' So, now, let's speculate on some must-see moments we would relish seeing onscreen in the sequel. (more...)

Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields iconic 1960's musical SWEET CHARITY is playing on the stage of the Festival Theatre as this year's musical offering at the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. Visually stunning and often energetically infectious, this musical, with book by Neil Simon, comes at a time when everything mod is new again. The 'MAD MEN' era has made a resurgence in clothing and home furnishings, so this nod to the past seems perfectly placed.
