Michigan Irish Music Festival Announces 2016 Lineup

The Michigan Irish Music Festival returns 4-Day Festival ReturnsSeptember 15th to 18th and will kick off the 2016 festival with a Pub Preview Party on Thursday night. The Pub Party will give patrons a preview of the weekend with food, beverage, and entertainment in the pub tent only. Entry is only $5 (cash only Thursday). Three bands will play Thursday. The full festival opens Friday with all five stages and the complete compliment of food, beverages (domestic beer, Irish whiskey, Irish cider and local craft beer), shopping and cultural/dance offerings. National Black Theatre Selects New Round of Playwrights for Residency

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) has selected two Black playwrights for its I AM SOUL residency program, the nation's premier theatrical program dedicated solely to the development of Black playwrights, with a commitment to a workshop production of their new works. Angelica Cheri and Derek Lee McPhatter were chosen for the fourth round of the program as part of a competitive national selection process for the 18-month residency that will focus on the creation of a new play to be produced in 2018. Desert Theatreworks (DTW), Palm Desert's 501(c)(3) community theatre, has received 64 nominations for the Desert Theatre League's 2016 Desert Star awards, the most of any company. Lance and Ron Phillips-Martinez, the spouses who serve as DTW's artistic director and executive director, respectively, sat down with Broadway World to discuss the company's nominations and its upcoming season. The 2016-17 season consists of two comedies, a murder mystery, two musicals, and a Holiday revue featuring Frank Sinatra's songs: The Realistic Joneses, A Murder is Announced, Christmas My Way: A Sinatra Holiday Bash, 45 Seconds from Broadway, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Next to Normal. As students, teachers and parents get into the full swing of a new school year, so too does the Canton Symphony Orchestra begin a new season of diverse programs.  It gets started with ConverZations on September 12 at 12:00pm with Erik Mann, Executive Director of the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society presenting "Classical Passion Reborn".  ConverZations are free public discussions featuring a variety of musicians and music-lovers alike. The series, sponsored by T. K. & Faye A. Heston and the Ada C. & Helen J. Rank Charitable Trust, kicks off in the Zimmermann Symphony Center, 2331 17th St. NW, Canton.  The ConverZations Series will continue on the second Monday of every month from October 2016 to April 2017. Stoneham Theatre Presents Musical Farce LUCKY STIFF

Stoneham Theatre opens its 17th Season with Lucky Stiff, a musical murder mystery farce about love, dogs, diamonds, and death. From the creators of Ragtime and Seussical, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Directed by Caitlin Lowans and Choreographed by Elliot Norton and IRNE Award-winner Ilyse Robbins, Lucky Stiff hilariously tells the story of an unassuming shoe salesman who stands to inherit six million dollars from a recently deceased uncle he never met. There's only one catch: he has to bring his embalmed uncle on a vacation to Monte Carlo. Should he succeed in passing his uncle off as alive, he'll get the inheritance.
