From its stunning Broadway premiere in 1968, Hair defined the "rock musical," exuberantly celebrating the hippie counterculture, anti-war movement and sexual revolution of the 1960s with a rainbow score of hits - including "Aquarius," "Good Morning Starshine," and "Easy to be Hard" - that have become ingrained in pop culture. Let down your long, beautiful hair, pull out the tie-dye and celebrate this groundbreaking American journey as we "Let the Sunshine In!"

HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot, and tells the story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. The 2009 revival, directed by Diane Paulus, won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle also honored the production with their 2009 award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.

BWW Review: FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell
by Bonnie Lynn Wagner - Mar 28, 2017

FANGIRL took me longer to get into than ELEANOR & PARK, which I reviewed here at BWW last week. It has a slower start before it gets moving and makes readers become attached to the characters. It's also a longer book, so it took me longer than the day it did to read ELEANOR & PARK. But in some ways, I can relate more to FANGIRL because I've experienced several of the same things that Cath goes through. In ELEANOR & PARK, it's easy to slip into Eleanor's shoes and feel her embarrassment and live her life. With FANGIRL, the audience is more secular. I've heard a lot of people complain that FANGIRL seems improbable, that freshmen at college aren't like this, that the scenario is off. ...And yet, Cath is a lot like I was my first year of college. Don't brush off Cath's experience just because it wasn't yours, because it was someone else's. (more...)

BWW Review: Charming but Flawed FINDING NEVERLAND Searches for Magic
by Michael L. Quintos - Mar 27, 2017

A charming though perplexing adaptation of the 2004 film, FINDING NEVERLAND jets into too many erratic directions at any given moment and doesn't gel completely as a whole. And for all its gorgeous, visual splendor, it is surprisingly lacking in honest-to-goodness stage magic. The touring version of the 2015 Broadway stage musical adaptation continues at OC's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through April 2, 2017. (more...)
