"Baby" tells the story of three couples on a university campus as they deal with the painful, rewarding and agonizingly funny consequences of this universal experience. There are the college students, barely at the beginning of their adult lives; the 30-somethings, having trouble conceiving but determined to try; and the middle aged parents, looking forward to seeing their last child graduate from college when a night of unexpected passion lands them back where they started.

It took Lucie Arnaz her entire professional life to get booked for a solo nightclub/cabaret show at the Cafe Carlyle. It turned out to be worth the wait-for herself and her audiences-and her weeklong run at the stylish club (that began on April 13 and ends with shows tonight at 8:45 and 10:45) would no doubt have made her famous parents--Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz--beam with pride. Lucy might have erupted into a joyful crying jag, while Desi would have kvelled in his signature rapid-fired Spanish because when it comes to her performance on a cabaret stage, Lucie Arnaz doesn't 'got some 'splaining to do.' Submitted by Petite Opera, Chicago suburban Park Ridge's professional 501c3 non-profit opera company, presents its first musical theatre work, 'SNOOPY!!! The Musical' April 25-May 4, 2014. Based on the Charles M Schulz Peanuts cartoon strip, this fun musical focuses on the life of Snoopy, from the puppy farm to his attempts at writing the great American novel. It also follows the Peanuts child characters in their discovery and interpretation of their world as they grow up. Fans of Charles Schulz's strip will recognize Snoopy and his friend Woodstock, Lucy's psychiatrist booth, Linus' blanket and more. The delightful musical includes the upbeat songs 'Poor Sweet Baby,' 'I Know Now,' 'Where Did That Little Dog Go?,' 'The Big Bow Wow' and 'It Was a Dark and Stormy Night.' (more...)

WAR HORSE Makes South African Premiere, Oct. 22

The global theatre phenomenon, WAR HORSE will be making its South African premiere later this year, beginning with a season at The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg in October before transferring to the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town in December. WAR HORSE will be presented in South Africa by Pieter Toerien, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) and The National Theatre of Great Britain, in association with Handspring Puppet Company. The production has been seen by over 5 million people worldwide since its opening at the National Theatre in 2007. Theater at Monmouth will celebrate 45 years of arts education for young people throughout Maine with two arts learning programs: Page to Stage and the Write On! Student Playwriting Project. Each program provides students hands-on opportunities to explore their creative voices with professional artists. For grades pre-k to 8, TAM's Page to Stage Tour brings a world premiere adaptation of Ruth Stiles Gannett's My Father's Dragon to schools across the state. The second annual Write On!
