A Life in the Theatre at Terrific New Theatre is a very interesting look at life backstage. Written by David Mamet and first produced in 1977, this play holds up well and is definitely true to form for Mamet in that it leaves much open to your interpretation, something intelligent theatre goers will enjoy. Gloucester Stage Names New Artistic Director

Gloucester Stage is pleased to announce that Robert Walsh has been named Artistic Director of the 36-year old non-profit professional theatre, effective immediately. Walsh's appointment as Artistic Director continues a 20-year relationship with Gloucester Stage as both an actor and director as well as serving as Interim Artistic Director since December, 2014. During Gloucester Stage's 2015 season Walsh directed Enda Walsh's The New Electric Ballroom and currently appears in the New England premiere of Israel Horovitz's Gloucester Blue, which has extended it run through October 11. What starts out as a simple toothache evolves into a dizzying chain of events as a group of disparate people, played by a cast of five who assume many roles indiscriminate of age, gender, and race, struggle to make connections in an increasingly isolated world. At the center of the story is a Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant, The Golden Dragon, where a young Chinese man suffering from an oversensitive incisor sparks a whacked and weird series of interconnected stories. Songs For A New World with music and lyrics by three time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown is a stirring musical journey examining the moments of decision and difficult choices faced in everyday life. Known for such Broadway hits as Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, and The Last Five Years, Mr. Brown artfully blends pop, jazz and gospel in solos and ensemble styles to create this inspiring song cycle.  Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Robert Walsh, the production features five singers including Tony Award nominee Barbara Walsh, Broadway veterans Rockport's Wendy Waring and Jack Donahue, Berklee College of Music graduate Chris Pittman and  Brandeis' Nyah Macklin, all four in their Gloucester Stage debut.
