Review: A Breathtaking, Poignant Lens Shines On GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY at Straz Center
by Drew Eberhard - Mar 28, 2024

“Tonight’s story begins and ends at a guesthouse in Duluth, Minnesota, in the winter of 1934.” These were the opening words spoken by Dr. Walker, as he sets the scene. An evening of love, pain, suffering, interloped with a lush score based on the music of Bob Dylan. Girl from the North Country, is a dramatic musical with a book by Conor McPherson (The Weir), and songs with music and lyrics by the great Bob Dylan. The show made its Off-Broadway premiere at the Public Theatre from September 30, 2018- December 22, 2018. This transfer featured an all-American cast and was helmed after the successful run at London’s Old Vic a year prior, and following a limited 12-week run shortly thereafter at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End.

Review: THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Mar 25, 2024

What did our critic think of TCandlelight Music Theatre normally plays it safe when scheduling a season. That’s’ why Aisle Say was surprised that “THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD” was part of this year’s season. And more so for the musical was written by Rupert Holmes, whose most prominent claim to fame was his #1 Billboard hit, the romantically funny tune, “The Pina Colada Song”. (To give Holmes his due, the musical won the Tony for Best Musical in 1986).HE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD at Candlelight Music Theatre?

Review: YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN at Circuit Playhouse
by Kevin Shaw - Mar 22, 2024

What did our critic think of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN at Circuit Playhouse? On its surface, it’s difficult to articulate just how such simply drawn characters with simply framed personalities have endured for so long. Perhaps that’s the secret to Schulz’s “Peanuts Sauce”-simplicity.

Review: DEAR BRUTUS at MainStage Irving-Los Colinas
by Sam Lisman - Mar 21, 2024

I'm very thankful MainStage Irving-Los Colinas decided to include Dear Brutus in this year’s season, as many people (myself included) would otherwise never experience its magic. And it is magical, both in its setting and in this performance.
