Singer-Songwriter-Author David Berkeley Releases New Album & Novella

New York, NY (September 25, 2015) -- Singer-songwriter-author David Berkeley releases his sixth album, Cardboard Boat today, along with his accompanying novella, The Free Brontosaurus. The songs on the album are sung from the perspective of each story's main character. This pairing of songs with stories follows Berkeley's initial book/album combination: 140 Goats and a Guitar. That book comprised thirteen stories, each of which set up a song on his fourth album, Some Kind of Cure.   (more...)

MCC Theater Taps Television Star to Lead John Pollono's LOST GIRLS; Full Cast Set

MCC Theater has just announced the the New York premiere of John Pollono's Lost Girls, BroadwayWorld has confirmed.  Golden Globe nominated star of stage and screen, Piper Perabo-who recently completed five seasons of the USA's popular drama series "Covert Affairs" for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination, and was last seen onstage in the Broadway and MCC Theater productions of Neil LaBute's Reasons to be Pretty-stars alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach (HBO's "Girls"), Meghann Fahy (Next to Normal), Tasha Lawrence (Good People, The Whale), and newcomers Lizzy DeClement and Josh Green.  (more...)

CC Playhosue to Revive PINOCCHIO as Part of 50th Anniversary Season

In December 1963, Paul Crabtree's The Perils of Pinocchio opened in the auditorium of the Cumberland Elementary School and created a county-wide storm of enthusiasm that gave birth to the Cumberland County Playhouse two years later. Michael Riedel to Open New Curran Series GROUNDBREAKERS WITH KEVIN SESSUMS

Carole Shorenstein Hays announced today that for the inaugural installment of Groundbreakers, the Curran's Editor-at-Large Kevin Sessums will sit down with Broadway's most notorious commentator, the New York Post's Michael Riedel, to discuss the state of the theater and his new book, Razzle Dazzle: The Battle For Broadway.  This event, taking place on stage at the Curran (445 Geary Street) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, is free. The Marshall Tucker Band to Release New Live Album

After blazing concert trails across the United States for four years, The Marshall Tucker Band (MTB) took a mighty leap in November of 1976 when they crossed the Atlantic and hit Europe for the first time.  The MTB recorded and archived the European tour and now for the first time, the nearly 40 year old live recordings will be available for purchase when Live in the UK 1976 (Ramblin' Records / Sony RED) is released on October 30, 2015. Rubicon Theatre Company's MY FAIR LADY Begins This Month

The director and designers behind Rubicon Theatre Company's acclaimed environmental productions ofFiddler on the Roof and Man of La Mancha have reunited on the two-piano chamber version of the legendary Lerner and Loewe's classic My Fair Lady. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, the musical tells the story of Professor Henry Higgins, an arrogant and attractive phonetician who makes a wager that he can transform a 'deliciously low' Cockney flower-seller (Eliza Doolittle) into an elegant lady by teaching her to speak more beautifully. The magnificent score includes 'I Could Have Danced All Night,' 'On the Street Where You Live,' 'Wouldn't It Be Loverly,' and 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.' For generations, RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA existed only as a beloved television movie. First with a live broadcast in 1957 starring Julie Andrews; then in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren, a version which was regularly re-broadcast into the 90s (which I grew up watching); and finally in 1997 with Brandy in the title role and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. However, in 2013, over 55 years after its first broadcast, led by Broadway's favorite princess Laura Osnes and crowned prince Santino Fontana, R&H 's CINDERELLA took its first Broadway bow. The show earned nine Tony nominations, running for nearly two years. Now, CINDERELLA's First National Tour sets up shop in its own little corner at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, with performances beginning on Tuesday night. (more...)
