Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater have announced their lineup of artists for March 16 through March 29: 

The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) continues its 2019-2020 season with a performance by the 17-member NYYS Jazz ensemble on Monday, March 9, 2020 in two sets at 7:30pm and 9:30pm, at Dizzy's Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, led by Director Andy Clausen. Titled Celebrating Charlie Parker @ 100, and featuring saxophonist Steve Wilson, the performances pay homage to Charlie Parker's centennial, musical legacy, and bebop innovations with selections by Parker, Wilson, Bennie Moten, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, and more. NYYS Jazz will also give the world premiere of the NYYS First Music commission In the Shadow of Tall Giants by Devin Reilly.

One would hope that ANDRE DE SHIELDS: OLD DAWG; NEW TRICKS would find the theatrical life it deserves beyond this one concert. The story of JELLY and what has become of him is not just one for all, but one for the ages.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Margo Lion, Broadway and off-Broadway producer, has passed away. Lion is best known for her role in producing Hairspray.

Today, Tech N9ne announces the “ENTERFEAR Tour 2020” with Jelly Roll and drops a new music video, “Yeah No!” (feat. Mackenzie Nicole). “Yeah No!” was released in November on the ENTERFEAR - Level 1 EP; the five-track effort offered fans the first taste of Tech N9ne's next album, which is set for release in 2020. 

Rittz drops the highly anticipated Put A Crown On It album via his own label, CNT. The 12-track effort includes features from Paul Wall, Jelly Roll, Yelawolf, Twista, Dizzy Wright, Big Hud, Too $hort, and Futuristic. The album title comes from Rittz's dedication to excellence--the phrase “put a crown on it” has become the seal of approval from the Atlanta Rapper as he launches his new imprint, CNT Entertainment. “A lot of us are underdogs and have-nots,” Rittz explains. “So I'm like, 'Forget that. Let's put a crown on everything.' Everything that we do, I want to put a crown on it”

The 2019 National Black Theatre Festival has ended with memories of grandeur and spectacular stage plays. Here is my review of the productions I attended.

The Grove Street Stompers were formed in 1959 by band leader and piano player Bill Dunham.  This fabulous group's repertoire includes samples of Dixieland, New Orleans and swing styles with tunes made famous by such greats as Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton.

The North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NC Black Rep) announces that George C. Wolfe's Tony Award Winning musical, Jelly's Last Jam, will be the opening night performance at the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival (NBTF).

Today, Tech N9ne continues his Kathartic visual series with a new music video: 'EF U' (Easier for You) feat. Krizz Kaliko and Jelly Roll. 'EF U' (Easier for You) addresses mental health and focuses on a message of suicide prevention. At the top of the song, Tech N9ne dedicates the track: 'This is dedicated to the ones that are broken / Stay here with us / Your time to shine is coming.'

Birdland has announced its upcoming May program!

Australian musical theatre stars Michael Cormick and Melissa Langton, multi award-winning singer/songwriter Nina Ferro and singer, musical theatre and cabaret artist Danielle Matthews are among the stellar line-up of performers featuring in Arts Centre Melbourne's 2019 High Tea Live series. Previously known as Jazz High Tea, High Tea Live offers a high culture treat with an outstanding program featuring jazz, pop, cabaret, and Broadway. The beloved Arts Centre Melbourne tradition, features a different act on the first Sunday of every month from May until December.

With under two weeks to go until opening, Underbelly Festival Southbank has 31 more shows for 2019 including international drag sensation Courtney Act - the star who gained global recognition for starring in Australia's Got Talent, RuPaul's Drag Race and Celebrity Big Brother UK returning with her acclaimed show Under the Covers.

Hit songwriters J. Fred Knobloch, Thom Schuyler, Tony Arata and renowned harmonica player Jelly Roll Johnson will present the first true in-the-round performance for the Bluebird Cafe Songwriter Series at The Studio at Opry City Stage in the heart of Times Square on Friday, September 14, 2018. Knobloch and Schuyler originated the first in-the-round show at Nashville's famed Bluebird Cafe over 36 years ago. Set in the center of the room, in-the-round has evolved into the venue's signature format, and the two creators, along with Arata and Johnson have been dubbed “The Bluebird Cafe's Fab Four.” 

Legendary actor, director, singer & choreographer Maurice Hines is set to play The Triad (158 West 72nd Street) on Saturday 8/25 at 7pm. Hines is the brother of the late dancer Gregory Hines and best known for starring in Frances Ford Coppola's 'The Cotton Club', Broadway's 'Sophisticated Ladies,' 'Eubie' 'Jelly's Last Jam' & 'Uptown.
