One of the biggest movie of this past month has been THOR: THE DARK WORLD, as it has grossed over $500 million dollars since it's release on November 8th, 2013. There are a lot of themes that run through this movie that may appeal to the Live Theatre going audience, especially those that are fans of Shakespeare's: revenge, pouty princes, royalty leading their men into battle. Yet, there is another reason that theatre lovers can enjoy this movie. All the Live Theatre performers that are in it!

Yet, one person that has received a lot of praise for his turn as the good old fashioned villain Loki, God of mischief, is Tom Hiddleston. He may have exploded into public consciousness as the villainous Loki in the Thor movie, but he has been a Working Theatre and television actor for years before his role in this blockbuster movie.

His credits range from THE CHANGLING, CYMBELINE, Cassio in a production of Shakespeare's OTHELLO Alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor to critical and later Lvov in a West End revival of Chekov's IVANOV.

Starting December 6th through February 8th, 2014,, he can be found playing title character in William Shakespeare's theatre adaptation of CORIOLANUS at the Donmar Warehouse and Covent Garden Theatre.

Check out what he had to say about acting, Shakespeare, and his famous co-stars when he came to San Diego for in July for Comic Con and visited Nerd HQ and Zachary Levi (currently in FIRST DATE on Broadway)? Pull up a chair, get some tea and see what he has to say!

Other things that he does in this chat that may entertain you:

  • Can do many impressions of his co-stars
  • Claims to have two passions - Tennis and Shakespeare
  • Is an awesome velociraptor

In this he says there is a quote that he really likes which says (In French and English) "We all have 2 lives. The second begins when you realize you only have one- so don't waste any time." So click on that link already!

This year the Nerd HQ panels benefited Operation Smile.
