Metropolitan Ballet Academy Alumnus Joins Next Generation Ballet as New Artist

Metropolitan Ballet Academy alumnus, Peter Weil, age 18, will join the Next Generation Ballet as a New Artist for the 2014 -2015 season, and as a former YAGP Medal winner, has been invited by Youth America Grand Prix to appear in the International Young Medal Winners Ballet Performances at the XIX Annual International Ballet Festival of Miami, on September 6th, 2014. Ballet Hispanico and BHdos to Perform in City Parks Foundation's SUMMERSTAGE

Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the nation's premier Latino dance organization since 1970, will perform a dynamic trio of works at SummerStage at Central Park on Wednesday, July 16 at 8pm. The program for the evening will include Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro's Asuka, a special piece celebrating the life and music of Celia Cruz on the anniversary of her 2003 passing. Ms. Cruz last performed in Central Park's SummerStage in 2002. Ballet Hispanico's pre-professional Second Company, BHdos, will also participate in SummerStage with a performance at St. Mary's Park in the Bronx on Friday, July 11 at 7pm. The Boston Ballet will perform at The Koch Theater at Lincoln Center from June 25-29, 2014 for their first New York tour. This marks the final performances of the Company's 50th season, which launched at London's Coliseum Theatre in July, 2013. Nominated by The Critics' Circle National Dance Awards for 'Outstanding Company', Boston Ballet is internationally recognized for a commitment to classical, neo-classical and contemporary choreography. The Company consists of 56 dancers representing a total of 19 nationalities and will present six dynamic performances accompanied by the Boston Ballet Orchestra. Boston Ballet's programs showcase a century of ground-breaking choreography and the impressive range of this world-class institution as well as two New York premieres - Alexander Ekman's Cacti and a new work by Jose Martinez. Jeffrey and Lia Cirio are brother and sister and also principle dancers with the company. Russell Granet, Executive Director of Lincoln Center Education (LCE), announced details today ofSummer Forum 2014, a re-envisioned professional development experience which expands on Lincoln Center's unparalleled dedication to professional growth for local, national, and international educators and artists. LCE's Summer Forum, which takes place July 7 through 18 and succeeds the previous Summer Session series, will feature in-depth and hands-on educational workshops based on LCE's core values of engagement, equity, integrity and creativity, and its approach to aesthetic education and focus on "thinking like an artist." Summer Forum is open to educators and artists of all kinds, and LCE-trained teaching artists will lead labs that explore the process of imaginative learning and discovery through works of performance and fine art, helping the participants determine how to apply what they have learned in their own classrooms, whether it be towards science, English, history or the arts. Lab topics throughout Summer Forum will include sessions on aesthetic education practices, teaching artistry to arts and Common Core, creating art in the community, and LCE's pedagogy for engaging students in problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Nashville Ballet to Debut New Collaboration with Ben Folds & Nashville Symphony in May

Nashville Ballet combines two 20th century masterpieces - Serenade and Petite Mort - with a world premiere from multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Ben Folds and the Nashville Symphony to create The Ben Folds Project, May 2-4 at TPAC's Jackson Hall. Folds debuted the music from his piano concerto with the Nashville Symphony March 13-15, but will combine it with original choreography from Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling in this world premiere. Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced New Moves, a unique performance event designed to search out, develop and showcase emerging choreographers, both locally (some within Kansas City Ballet) and from the national dance scene. It is designed to provide time and space for dancers and guest choreographers to create world premiere works. This season's choreographers include four Company dancers Travis Guerin, Anthony Krutzkamp, Charles Martin, and Ian Poulis and two guest choreographers, Erin Novak-Lustig, the artistic director from Seamless Dance Theatre who recently was honored by the Federation of Dance Competitions as its 2013 Humanitarian of the Year, and Ilya Kozadayev, a former soloist with Houston Ballet and currently on faculty with Oklahoma University pursuing his Master's Degree in Choreography.
