The text, suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and written by Authur Laurents, is economical and succinct. Jule Styne’s music varies from catchy tunes to lush, foreboding orchestral maneuvers, and Sondheim’s nascent lyrics are simple and accessible, yet cut to the core of each scene’s objective.

The trailer for the HBO Original documentary Slave Play. Not a Movie. A Play, directed by Jeremy O. Harris, has just been released. According to reports, Broadway couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are set to executive produce a new documentary about Fire Island Pines. The documentary, titled A House is Not a Disco, made its world premiere at the 2024 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival. It is directed by Brian J. Smith and documents a year-in-the-life in the world’s most iconic “homo-normative” community: Fire Island Pines.
