'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' of the Vietnam War's Final Days to be Published January 3'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' of the Vietnam War's Final Days to be Published January 3
by BWW News Desk - Dec 25, 2016

'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' follows the lives of people trapped in the besieged capital city of South Vietnam during April, 1975-the final 30 days of the Vietnam War. To be published on January 3, 2017, this historically accurate novel follows the lives of NBS-TV's first Vietnamese-American correspondent and the hard-hitting Sam Esposito of The Washington Legend whose news reports infuriated Richard Nixon, an American businessman who risks his life to smuggle out his employees; an American soldier searching for his wife's relatives, and a French expatriate barkeep hanging on the last vestiges of colonialism. This is along with US diplomats, including the disillusioned Ambassador Graham Martin, CIA operatives and double agents. The novel has won accolades from: Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump who wrote, 'Escape from Saigon brings to life the lives of the men and women trapped in the capital city,' and Casey Sherman, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Finest Hours, and Boston Strong who wrote, 'Escape from Saigon is a sweeping saga...in the grand tradition of Michener and Clavell.' Llewellyn King, host of PBS-TV's 'White House Chronicle, in his syndicated column put it this way: 'Escape from Saigon has the same ring of authenticity as Graham Greene's The Quiet American. Its portrait of a city in extremis is chilling and completely engrossing. It will take many back and some forward - forward to new foreign entanglements.' For their complete comments and further information about 'Escape from Saigon,' please visit www.escapefromsaigon.com. Authors Michael Morris and Dick Pirozzolo are decorated Vietnam veterans and freelance journalists. Morris served in the U.S. Army infantry in I Corps in 1967-68 and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat and returned home to launch an illustrative career as a journalist and editor with some of the nation's leading newspapers and magazines including USA Today. Pirozzolo was an Air Force press officer in Saigon in 1970-71 and was awarded the Bronze Star for my service. Pirozzolo returned to Vietnam to play a prominent role in US-Vietnam reconciliation and remains active on the Editorial Board of Boston Global Forum, a think tank focused on peaceful solutions to world conflict, including tensions between China and Vietnam over disputed islands in the South China Sea. Published by Skyhorse Publishing, New York, NY, 264 pages hard bound and Kindle versions are available. (more...)

BWW Review: A CHORUS LINE at Playhouse On ParkBWW Review: A CHORUS LINE at Playhouse On Park
by Joseph Harrison - Jun 19, 2016

There's a reason A CHORUS LINE, the hit musical about seventeen dancers auditioning for a Broadway show played for 6,137 performances in its original run. Audiences simply connected with these people and their experiences - with the universal feeling of wanting something so bad you can taste it, and with the fascination of seeing the blood, sweat and tears that go into casting a production. This connection, this fascination and this joy is absolutely apparent on the Playhouse on Park stage in their season 7 closing production of A CHORUS LINE. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Jan 6, 2016

Don't let the title fool you; Urinetown is not a pipeline straight to dirty toilet humor! Urinetown is a satirical and cerebral look at how greed and corruption can impact a community. Most of all, Urinetown is a hilarious evening of theatre that indulges in making fun of itself. The ten-time Tony nominated show (2002 winner of Best Score, Best Book and Best Direction), also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical. Bayou City Theatrics brings the absurd musical comedy to The Kaleidoscope January 8 through 24, 2016. (more...)

BWW Review: PASSING STRANGE at Playhouse On ParkBWW Review: PASSING STRANGE at Playhouse On Park
by Joseph Harrison - Dec 7, 2015

How does one find "the real"? That is the question that "Youth" the protagonist in PASSING STRANGE asks himself as he takes the audience along on his long journey of self-discovery. In this the second production of their seventh season, Playhouse on Park in West Hartford has taken a chance on a lesser known piece - one that, while it did receive critical acclaim in its original New York production, is not necessarily a household name, even among theater aficionados. But sometimes, a lack of previous knowledge or a following can be just the key to creating a new and fresh experience as an audience. And this reviewer certainly experienced something unique and brilliant, and dare I say "real" on the Playhouse stage. (more...)
