by Julie Musbach - May 25, 2018

The Ivoryton Playhouse will present the 2014 Tony Award-nominated 2013 Broadway Musical A Night With Janis Joplin, written and directed by Randy Johnson, from May 30 to June 24, 2018. Born in Port Arthur, TX in 1943, Janis Lyn Joplin challenged racial and sexual stereotypes and created a sound and a style that has become legendary. She exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock and roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with more than a touch of Southern Comfort made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock Her unique sound, however, was originally created as a result of her love for some of the greatest African-American singers of all time. Now, theatergoers can share an evening with the Queen of Rock and Roll and her musical influences in A Night with Janis Joplin

'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' of the Vietnam War's Final Days to be Published January 3
by Robert Diamond - Dec 25, 2016

'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' follows the lives of people trapped in the besieged capital city of South Vietnam during April, 1975-the final 30 days of the Vietnam War. To be published on January 3, 2017, this historically accurate novel follows the lives of NBS-TV's first Vietnamese-American correspondent and the hard-hitting Sam Esposito of The Washington Legend whose news reports infuriated Richard Nixon, an American businessman who risks his life to smuggle out his employees; an American soldier searching for his wife's relatives, and a French expatriate barkeep hanging on the last vestiges of colonialism. This is along with US diplomats, including the disillusioned Ambassador Graham Martin, CIA operatives and double agents. The novel has won accolades from: Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump who wrote, 'Escape from Saigon brings to life the lives of the men and women trapped in the capital city,' and Casey Sherman, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Finest Hours, and Boston Strong who wrote, 'Escape from Saigon is a sweeping saga...in the grand tradition of Michener and Clavell.' Llewellyn King, host of PBS-TV's 'White House Chronicle, in his syndicated column put it this way: 'Escape from Saigon has the same ring of authenticity as Graham Greene's The Quiet American. Its portrait of a city in extremis is chilling and completely engrossing. It will take many back and some forward - forward to new foreign entanglements.' For their complete comments and further information about 'Escape from Saigon,' please visit www.escapefromsaigon.com. Authors Michael Morris and Dick Pirozzolo are decorated Vietnam veterans and freelance journalists. Morris served in the U.S. Army infantry in I Corps in 1967-68 and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat and returned home to launch an illustrative career as a journalist and editor with some of the nation's leading newspapers and magazines including USA Today. Pirozzolo was an Air Force press officer in Saigon in 1970-71 and was awarded the Bronze Star for my service. Pirozzolo returned to Vietnam to play a prominent role in US-Vietnam reconciliation and remains active on the Editorial Board of Boston Global Forum, a think tank focused on peaceful solutions to world conflict, including tensions between China and Vietnam over disputed islands in the South China Sea. Published by Skyhorse Publishing, New York, NY, 264 pages hard bound and Kindle versions are available.
