Born in Port Arthur, TX in 1943, Janis Lyn Joplin challenged racial and sexual stereotypes and created a sound and a style that has become legendary. She exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock and roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with more than a touch of Southern Comfort made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock Her unique sound, however, was originally created as a result of her love for some of the greatest African-American singers of all time. Now, theatergoers can share an evening with the Queen of Rock and Roll and her musical influences in A Night with Janis Joplin

Previews began yesterday for the world premiere of I HATE MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL and audiences loved it! Simpsons' television writer and producer Mike Reiss has created a modern day Scrooge story of a cranky comedy writer trapped in the rubble of an LA earthquake. His life plays out before his eyes in the form of a musical -- and he hates musicals! With numbers sung by everyone from Sigmund Freud and Satan, will he learn to be less cranky? Details have been announced for Open Close, a temporary experimental arts installation project led by a team of award-winning artists and architects using sound, light, sculpture, design and visual arts to re-imagine three Edinburgh Royal Mile closes during a four-week exhibition taking place 14 July - 11 August.

Stageworks Theatre presents its fifth production of the season, The Producers, by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks. Directed by Dru Wiser, music direction by Chelsea Lerner, and choreography by Adam Delka, the show runs March 17 - April 9, 2017 on the Garza Mainstage.

Pirozzolo was an Air Force press officer in Saigon in 1970-71 and was awarded the Bronze Star for my service. Pirozzolo returned to Vietnam to play a prominent role in US-Vietnam reconciliation and remains active on the Editorial Board of Boston Global Forum, a think tank focused on peaceful solutions to world conflict, including tensions between China and Vietnam over disputed islands in the South China Sea. The world premiere of Jon Robin Baitz's 'Vicuña,' directed by Robert Egan, opened this Sunday, October 30, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre. Performances for 'Vicuña' continue through November 20. The cast includes Linda Gehringer, Brian George, Harry Groener, Ramiz Monsef and Samantha Sloyan.
