Re-starting theatre after the pandemic shutdown is a bit of a challenge; theatregoers are still wary of live performances and seating is limited. Not a sustainable outlook, but it is encouraging that companies are proceeding and hopefully the outlook will improve. SF Playhouse's choice of presenting a reworking of David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jrs. 1976 musical revue Starting Here, Starting Now is successful in its modern gender bending embellishments and economy of scale.

A legion of fans and supporters of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley gathered online Saturday, October 17 for TheatreWorks's first-ever virtual gala, From TheatreWorks with Love: A Party with Bond… Tim Bond, a 007-themed event that celebrated new Artistic Director Tim Bond as he begins his tenure at the Tony Award-winning theatre company.

Good news for musical theater lovers! TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's recent, acclaimed production of Paul Gordon's Pride and Prejudice will now be available to stream. Presented by Streaming Musicals, Pride and Prejudice will receive a a?oevirtual opening nighta?? on Friday, April 10 at 3:30pm PT/ 6:30pm ET, with an encore presentation at 7:00pm PT/10:00pm ET. Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone, The Prom) and Julie James, Program Director/ Curator of SiriusXM's a?oeOn Broadwaya?? channel, will host the a?oevirtual opening night,a?? which will include an intermission discussion with the creative team members including TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, who directed the new romantic musical comedy. Streaming during the April 10 a?oevirtual opening nighta?? will be free. Pride and Prejudice will then be available to stream on StreamingMusicals.com for a minimal fee. San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon presents its first production of 2020, the critically-acclaimed Tony Award-winning a?oeBest Musicala?? A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. Based on a novel by Roy Horniman, A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER features a book & lyrics by Robert L. Freedman, and music & lyrics by Steven Lutvak. 42nd Street Moon's production will be directed by Daren A.C. Carollo, with music direction by Daniel Thomas and choreography by Christina Lazo. A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER runs from February 26 a?" March 15, 2020 and will perform at San Francisco's Gateway Theatre (215 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94111).
