The House Theatre of Chicago today announced the appointment of its new Artistic Director, Lanise Antoine Shelley. Shelley is a multi-hyphenate Haitian artist, director, playwright, educator, visual artist and accomplished actress who has performed with some of the country's most prestigious companies.

Chicago theatres are presenting a wide range of online productions and events to celebrate Black History Month. Theatre venues in Chicago and across the world remain closed due to the pandemic yet the creative spirit remains bright.

Sideshow Theatre Company is pleased to welcome eleven new ensemble members and artistic associates. Ensemble members include Wardell Julius Clark, Greg Geffrard, Arti Ishak, Krystal Ortiz, Gabrielle Randle-Bent and Netta Walker. Artistic Associates include Patrick Agada, J. Nicole Brooks, Brynne Frauenhoffer, Jyreika Guest and Sarah Price.

Due to popular demand, Lookingglass Theatre Company, in collaboration with WBEZ 91.5 Chicago, adds two new dates for the World Premiere audio play of Her Honor Jane Byrne, written and directed by Ensemble Member and Mellon Playwright in Residence J. Nicole Brooks. First heard Thanksgiving weekend to wide acclaim, Her Honor Jane Byrne will air again on Chicago's NPR news station WBEZ 91.5 FM and wbez.org on Sunday, December 27 at 8pm CST and Friday, January 1 at 11am CST.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced a one-time $75,000 grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation in support of the theatre’s Rep-On Air series of virtual programming. The Bernard Osher Foundation has been a major funder of the arts in Bay Area for decades, and has included support for Berkeley Rep each year since 1993.

As a highlight of its previously announced Interview Marathon on January 31, Chicago Dance History Project (CDHP) presents its inaugural Maurice Seymour Award for Vision and Service to Scott Silberstein, producer and co-founder of HMS Media, the Emmy Award-winning multimedia company that creates broadcast, online, and mobile content.

This holiday season Berkeley Rep will stream Tony Award winner (and frequent Berkeley Rep collaborator) Mary Zimmerman's The Steadfast Tin Soldier, produced by Lookingglass Theatre Company. Beginning December 1 audiences and their families can experience the beloved classic as the production streams into their homes. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's story about a little tin soldier who never gives up, this production is a gorgeous spectacle of music and movement that is perfect for the whole family.  

Lookingglass Theatre Company, in collaboration with WBEZ 91.5 Chicago, presents a World Premiere audio play of Her Honor Jane Byrne, written and directed by Ensemble Member and Mellon Playwright in Residence J. The Old Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein today announced the appointment of Freedome Bradley-Ballentine as Associate Artistic Director. In addition to his expanded role in the Globe's Artistic Department, Bradley-Ballentine will continue overseeing the Globe's nationally recognized arts engagement programs.
