The time is 1910 but the gamesmanship is timeless in Karoline Leach's Tryst, a suspenseful, romantic, psychological thriller that concludes Palm Beach Dramaworks' 2013-2014 season. As a featured event of its Tenth Anniversary Spring Rep season, Phoenix Theatre Ensemble (www.PhoenixTheatreEnsemble.org) will present 'Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth' by Tom Stoppard from May 2 to 23, 2014 at The Wild Project 195 E. 3rd Street (at Ave. B). It's an evening of two short plays in which Stoppard radically shortens 'Hamlet' and 'Macbeth' to craft a witty Shakespearean two-step on serious themes of artistic dissent. Kevin Confoy directs. Box Tale Soup's version of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been created and adapted entirely by the company. It features a cast of just two human performers, a dozen colourful handmade puppets and a beautiful set that unfolds from a vintage trunk, alongside a magical soundtrack of original music composed especially for the show. From the surprising appearance of the Cheshire Cat to the madness of the Tea Party, this is a constantly inventive and refreshing take on Carroll's classic work. (more...)

Other Voices Theatre to Present 18th Annual Production of THE NEW ADVENTURES OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND, 4/18-19

Local theater group, Other Voices, is in the midst of rehearsals for their annual springtime production of The New Adventures of Alice in Wonderland at The Weinberg Center for the Arts. The cast is a mix of Frederick acting icons, like Julie Herber and Joann Lee (hailing from The MET) reprising their respective Red and White Queen roles. Jeremy Trammelle (Mad Hatter), Shawn Nakia (White Rabbit), and Amanda Patten (The Duchess) are also joining the cast. Other Voices is excited to introduce Miss Charley Bennett in the featured role of Alice. (more...)

Ripe Time to Bring Gertrude Stein's THE WORLD IS ROUND to the Stage, 4/17-30

Ripe Time, the Brooklyn-based company led by Rachel Dickstein, has garnered acclaim for creating physically charged, visually powerful adaptations of classic and contemporary stories by authors raging from Edith Wharton to Jhumpa Lahiri. Conceived, written and directed by Dickstein, the play The World is Round epitomizes the company's work, creating from Gertrude Stein's book a fable (for grownups and mature children) full of original, live music by Heather Christian and aerial movement choreographed by Nicki Miller. Ripe Time's first new show since its celebrated Mrs. Dalloway adaptation Septimus and Clarissa (2011), The World is Round makes its world premiere April 17 - 30 at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn). Children's Playhouse of Maryland's spring 2014 production of Disney's 'Alice In Wonderland, Jr.' showcases the talents of thirty student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore and Harford Counties. Performances are 1 p.m. the weekends of March 1-2, 8-9, and 15 -16 in the Administration Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. An additional 4 p.m. show March 9 will be sign language interpreted by CCBC students in the Interpreter Preparation program. Tickets are $10 general admission and are available from the CCBC Box Office, 443-840-2787 (ARTS) [Hours: Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.] or online at www.cpmarts.org.
