Women's Project Theater's 2014-15 Season to Feature Works by Cori Thomas, Kate Benson & More

Women's Project Theater, under the leadership of new Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Interim Executive Producer Jessica R. Jenen has announced the four plays in its 2014-15 season, continuing the theater's 37 year commitment to producing the finest work by women in the theater. Beginning in October, WP Theater's season will include new work by Cori Thomas (My Secret Language of Wishes), directed by Daniella Topol (Charles Ives take Me Home, Row After Row); Kate Benson (Lee Miller), directed by Lee Sunday Evans (The Play About My Dad); Tanya Barfield (The Call, Blue Door), directed by Leigh Silverman (Violet--Tony Nominee, Chinglish, Well), and Laura Eason (Sex With Strangers, "House of Cards"), directed by Kirsten Kelly (Slipping). Guthrie Theater's Joe Dowling Launches His Farewell Season

Guthrie Director Joe Dowling fulfills an unprecedented, two-decade-long tenure as the theater's artistic leader, and a legacy defined by singular productions of the classics and a dedication to new work and playwright celebrations; the creation of celebrated actor training programs and a prize-winning iconic building; and more than 6 million theatergoers under his leadership. In addition to the Guthrie debuts of Mary Zimmerman, Leigh Silverman and Maria Aiken, his 2014-2015 lineup includes first-time Guthrie productions of plays by Anne Washburn and Sarah Ruhl, three productions directed by Dowling, including a beloved Shakespeare comedy and iconic masterpieces by Arthur Miller and Sean O'Casey, as well as an all-American musical slated for summer. Roundabout Theatre Company is currently presenting the Violet, which plays a strictly limited engagement at Broadway's American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42nd Street) through August 10, 2014. Based on the short story 'The Ugliest Pilgrim' by Doris Betts, Violet features music by Jeanine Tesori, book & lyrics by Brian Crawley and direction by Leigh Silverman. Violet is produced in association with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, David Mirvish, Barry and Fran Weissler, Elizabeth Armstrong, and Mary Jo and Ted Shen. Women's Project Theater Begins Nationwide Hunt for New Artistic Director

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Women's Project Theater is going through some major changes. A national search has begun for a new Artistic Director to lead the company for the coming 2014-15 season and beyond. The new Artistic Director will succeed Julie Crosby, who recently departed the company as Producing Artistic Director, a position she held since 2006. During her tenure, Ms. Crosby led and nurtured the institution immeasurably, producing more than 25 plays by women playwrights and directors, and championing the careers of its alumnae lab artists.
