Roundabout Theatre Company presents a new Off-Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Tony Award-winning Into the Woods. Directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, this production premiered in May 2013 at the McCarter Theatre in association with the Fiasco Theater. Into the Woods officially opened last night, January 22, 2015 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America, will present the 19th Annual Festival from August 14 - 30, 2014. Each year the festival presents programming by nearly 200 of the world's best emerging theatre troupes and dance companies. General FringeNYC applications for 2015 are currently being accepted for participants in all genres (theatre, dance, puppetry, performance art, multi-media, etc.). Separate FringeAL FRESCO (free outdoor events) and FringeJR (children's programming) applications are also available. (more...)

Abrons Arts Center continues its 100th anniversary celebration of The Playhouse with the world premiere of five-time OBIE recipient David Greenspan's I'm Looking for Helen Twelvetrees. For over three decades, Greenspan has been omnipresent on New York City stages, from Bushwick to Broadway, and is beloved for his magnetic performances and his richly theatrical writing style. The New York Times has called Greenspan, "a theatrical conjurer of rare gifts," and fellow writer Tony Kushner considers him "all-round the most talented theater artist of [his] generation.' Included in the line-up is William Finn's A New Brain (running June 24-27), starring Jonathan Groff; Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party (running July 15-18), starring Off-Center veteran Sutton Foster; and Little Shop of Horrors (running July 1), with original cast member Ellen Greene. The production will star Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany, the critically-acclaimed star of the BBC America series Orphan Black, making her New York stage debut, and Tony Award nominee Thomas Sadoski, well known for his role on the HBO series, 'The Newsroom,' as well as his Tony-nominated performance in LaBute's reasons to be pretty. Directed by Kip Fagan (The Revisionist, Asuncion), the play is the second production of the acclaimed theater company's 2014/2015 Season.
