The annual All-Ohio Show is one of the most exciting projects that the Ohio EdTA offers to Thespians in Ohio. Each Thespian troupe may send up to six registered, inducted Thespians to audition for the cast and six registered, inducted Thespians to interview for crew positions. Once chosen, cast and crew only have three rehearsal/build weekends and one and a half days of tech/dress rehearsals in which to create an amazing production. The All-Ohio show is the featured opening show of the Ohio EdTA State Conference. The All-Ohio show intends to provide participating students with the experience of working on an advanced level of theatrical production. Involvement in the All-Ohio show is a special honor for the participants and schools, as well as an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. (more...)

Just last night, he New Group just honored Founding Artistic Director Scott Elliott and celebrated its 20th Anniversary season. Scott Elliott is an award-winning stage director, filmmaker and the founding Artistic Director of The New Group, where he recently directed the critically acclaimed revival of David Rabe's Sticks and Bones. At The New Group, he has directed world premieres by Thomas Bradshaw, Ayub Khan Din, Francine Volpe, Erika Sheffer and Tommy Nohilly; and the world premiere of the 2010 musical The Kid (Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical; Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award nominations for Outstanding Musical). Other credits include The New Group's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie starring Cynthia Nixon; David Rabe's Hurlyburly; and numerous collaborations with Ayub Khan Din, Wallace Shawn and Mike Leigh. Broadway credits include Present Laughter, Barefoot in the Park, The Threepenny Opera, The Women and Three Sisters. Red Branch Theatre Company (RBTC) will kick off its 2015 season entitled Coming of Age with the TONY Award-winning alt-rock musical, Spring Awakening. Casting has just been completed for the season opening performance at Howard County's newest professional theatre. The production will run at Drama Learning Center, where Red Branch is the theatre in residence, from April 17 - May 2, 2015. The theatre auctioned off tickets to the show's opening night on Broadway as a part of its 2015 gala, teasing: 'See it in Cambridge before it heads to NYC!' Casting has not yet been announced, but a recent NYC workshop was led by Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Bryce Pinkham, Christopher Fitzgerald, Barrett Wilbert Weed, and Eric Anderson. Producer Flora Q. Johnstone announced today the Whisper House, a new play with music, written by Obie Award-winner Kyle Jarrow (A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant) and composed by Grammy and Tony Award-winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) with lyrics by Jarrow and Sheik, conceived with Keith Powell, will receive a workshop this week at Arts Emerson in Boston, MA. Directed by Drama Desk-winner Ed Sylvanus Iskandar (The Mysteries and The Golden Dragon), the private industry presentation of Whisper House will take place on Friday, February 20, 2015. Artist Mark Holthusen (known for his work with Roger Waters and rock band Tiger Lilies) joins the team as a visual designer. (more...)

Dixon Place's new production, THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, begins performances tomorrow, Saturday, February 7th at 7:30 PM. The play is set to open on Sunday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM. Based on his best-selling novel, the production features critically acclaimed, Emmy nominated and award-winning storyteller James Lecesne, who portrays the life and characters of a Jersey Shore town where a young boy goes missing. The play is directed by Tony Speciale, with visuals by Matthew Sandager and incidental music by Duncan Sheik, some of which will be released in his new record 'Legerdemain' in April 2015. When they were still aspiring young artists Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar, TV star Josh Radnor, and Tony Award-nominated actress Melissa Erico each spent a transformative summer in the Powerhouse Theater Training Program. Now in its 31st year, the renowned annual program at Vassar College will run from June 19-July 26, 2015 and is currently accepting applications. Participants choose a curriculum focused on acting, playwriting, or directing, and together form a Company, which performs works for the public. The program is available to rising high school seniors through college-age students, as part of the prestigious Powerhouse Theater collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film.
