The City of Lawrenceville's Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) and Aurora Theatre invites the community to celebrate the Arts on July 19 with a 'Chalk Walk'! Inspired by the Aurora Theatre's season opener for the 2014-15 season, Disney's Mary Poppins, Lawrenceville's Chalk Walk will provide residents, visitors and amateur artists the opportunity to showcase their talents on the sidewalk in Downtown Lawrenceville. Anthony Rodriguez to Participate in 2014 NALAC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures- NALAC announced today the names of the participants for their 14th Annual NALAC Leadership Institute that will take place July 14-19, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. The Leadership Institute convenes Latino arts leaders for an intensive, one-week training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development. Anthony Rodriguez is one of the twenty-eight participants that will be part of the 2014 NALAC Leadership Institute. (more...)

Aurora Theatre continues the 2013-2014 Harvel Lab Series with a Teatro del Sol production, Mariela in the Desert by Karen Zacarias. It is 1950 and artists Mariela and Jose are living an isolated existence in the desert of Northern Mexico, haunted by the ghost of their young son. Jose is very ill and Mariela sends a telegram to their daughter encouraging her to come home. Where once the walls were beautifully decorated, now only one painting remains, and it is shrouded in mystery. This play will be performed in Spanish with English supertitles. This production features an amazing cast including the stunning Blanca Aguero in the title role of Mariela and Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director Anthony P. Aurora Theatre's 2013-2014 Harvel Lab Series continues with William Mastrosimone's Tamer of Horses running February 14 - March 2, 2014. Teen violence, education and the realization of one's own potential all take center stage in this poignant drama. Hector St. Vincent, a juvenile rapper on the run, takes up residence in an old barn owned by Ty & Georgiane Fletcher. A former teacher, Ty attempts to inspire and educate the teenager through an examination of Homer's The Iliad. But will he be rewarded for taking a chance on this troubled youth? The play features Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director Anthony P. Rodriguez and Maria Sager (The Book Club Play - Horizon Thaetre, Barrio Hollywood - Aurora Theatre) as the Fletchers and 2014 Aurora Apprentice Company member Dane Troy as Hector. The show will be performed in Aurora's intimate 86-seat Peach State Federal Credit Union Studio. The production reunites the creative duo from last season's hit 'Master Harold'...and the Boys with Jaclyn Hofmann directing and scenic design by Suzi Award-Winner Lee Maples. (more...)

Performances of Steppenwolf Theatre Company's fifth annual Garage Rep are scheduled to begin February 14, 2014, featuring The New Colony's world-premiere production of reWILDing Genius, Prologue Theatre Company's Chicago-premiere production of Saturday Night/Sunday Morning and Walkabout Theater Company's world-premiere production of The Wild. These innovative storefront companies perform in rotating repertory for ten weeks through April 20, 2013 (press performances are March 8 and 9, 2014). Support two of Gwinnett's great non-profits on January 14 at Aurora Theatre. Guests will get a chance to rub elbows with former NFL players and get an exclusive sneak-peek at The Brand Signature Series production Lombardi by Eric Simonson, based on the book When Pride Still Mattered - A Life of Vince Lombardi written by David Maraniss. The idea came from former Detroit Lion and Life After the Game founder, LaMar Campbell who thought this event would be a great way to support the arts in our community and bring awareness and support to the new Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center. Concussion safety and treatment is a topic near and dear to many current and former NFL stars and Mr. Campbell has thrown his full support behind this event. With that in mind, several former NFL greats scheduled to attend, including: David Greene (UGA & Seattle Seahawks), Chuck Smith (Atlanta Falcons), Matt Stinchcomb (UGA, Oakland Raiders & Tampa Bay Buccaneers), as well as Super Bowl Champions from the Green Bay Packers - Eric Matthews and Georgia Tech alum Dorsey Levens. And more are expected. Tickets include a VIP reception at the theatre at 7pm and the show beginning at 8pm. The cost to attend this once-in-a-lifetime event is just $25 and the proceeds benefit the Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center and Aurora Theatre. (more...)

Justin Anderson Joins Aurora Theatre as Associate Artistic Director

Aurora Theatre proudly announces Justin Anderson has been appointed the new Associate Artistic Director. One of Atlanta's busiest and most successful freelance stage directors has found an artistic home and Aurora Theatre could not be happier. Mr. Anderson will join the full-time staff at Aurora Theatre beginning January 6, 2014. Over the past two years he has made a significant impact on the theatre as the director of several successful productions including Tigers Be Still, Petite Rouge, Pater Pan and Wendy and Les Miserables. Les Miserables took home 5 Suzi Bass Awards including Best Musical and Best Director of Musical for Mr. Anderson. (more...)

The Brand Signature Series at Aurora Theatre continues with Lombardi by Eric Simonson, based on the book When Pride Still Mattered - A Life of Vince Lombardi written by David Maraniss. The show runs January 16 through February 9, 2014. Although football's Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Vince Lombardi - his inspirations, his passions and his ability to drive people to achieve what they never thought possible. In the play, a diligent young reporter named Michael McCormick takes us inside the life of this legendary icon. Lombardi ran on Broadway in 2010-2011 coinciding with Green Bay's championship run which culminated with the Packers being awarded the Lombardi trophy for their victory in Super Bowl XLV. (more...)
